23 Lincoln athletes qualify to Section Championships!

JVG place 2nd! Lily Garcia breaks ANOTHER school record with her 1st place overall finish! Lilly, Ryenne Bender, Maeve Cottin-Rack, Charlotte Soung, Ellianna Cliburn, Marissa Quintero and Isabella Sunseri are all moving on to the Section Championship race this Saturday!

Keegan Gehrke and Noah Bonilla get pulled up to compete with the Sophomores. Keegan placed 4th overall and led the team to a 5th place finish out of 15 schools. Keegan, Damian Nava, Julian Rayray, Eric Schlenger, Jacob Hadsall, Noah Bonilla and Ivan Cordova will fight it out for a better placement at Section Championships.

Congratulations to both Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls squads as well. VB brought home 2nd place finish without much effort while Varsity Girls continued their streak of qualifying to the Section Championships for the 4th year in a row! Meanwhile, both Kobi Hoang and Jackelyn Rubio qualified as individuals in the JV division.

Looking forward to another round of competitive racing!

TCAL Championships

JV Girls kicked off the event by earning their first TCAL Title! Lily Garcia won 1st overall, breaking the school record for JV Girls 2 mile (which she previously owned from earlier this season) in a time of 11:51. That time ranks her 5th for all 9th graders in CA! She was followed by teammates Ryenne Bender, Ellie Cliburn, Meave Cottin-Rack and Charlotte Soung to hold off Merrill West for the team title 33 to 38. Summer Soung and Madline Michel rounded out the top 7 to help displace West runners.

JV Boys backed it up with another TCAL Championship Victory! Tokay took it out fast, leading the race with 2 of their boys for the first mile. Our boys ran smart, ran patiently, and worked together as a team to reel them in before mile 2. With 800 to go, Keegan Gehrke, Damian Nava and Julian Rayray surged ahead to finish 1, 2, 3 across the line. The second half of the race played out very similarly with pairings of Lincoln boys working together to pick off the competition on the way to the finish. Eric Schlenger and Jacob Hadsall came across the line in 6th and 7th while Ivan Cordova and Noah Bonilla came in 14th and 15th to make up the Top 7 and bring home the win.

Our varsity girls put up a good fight to lock in a solid 2nd place team finish. Despite having a few girls working through mild injuries, they were all able to hit new PR’s or at least come within seconds of their previous one. That says a lot, because it was an extremely windy day and PR’s required a ton of extra effort! Our top 7 consisted of Emily Ellison (19:57), Francisca Eguiluz-Serrano (20:12), Molly Grupe (PR-20:45), Leia Murdock (PR-21:50), Grace Tolentino (PR-21:59), Sophia Matty (PR-23:51), Ashanti Brown (23:43).

The Varsity Boys race was pretty well locked in with all athletes present and strong, winning the TCAL Title 40 to 67 over Tokay. We haven’t had our full squad together since our first race of the season at the Lodi Flames Invite due to injuries and other obligations. It was great to see everyone racing together again. The Highlight of the race was Jeffrey’s dominant run, taking 1st overall and breaking the meet record with a time of 15:43. Andrew followed up in 3rd overall with 16:05. Justin Martinez made a huge breakthrough, coming in 3rd for the team, his best positioning of the season.  Baylen Ponte was right on his heels in 16:12. Cash Lucero, Caleb Cliburn and Kobi Hoang completed the top 7, going 15th, 16th, 17th place. Time to turn our attention to Section Championships!

Flat Sac

For many of our Seniors, this was their last XC Invitational for Lincoln High School and they made the most of it! Most of them were able to produce huge PR’s from their previous races on this course. Most notable was Emily Ellison, who had over a 2-minute PR, playing her as our 3rd All -Time Fastest Girls on that course. Francisca, right behind her in 4th and Molly cracked the Top 10 list in 9th. Andrew Fritch also had the best race of his career so far, breaking 16:00 in the 5k for the first time and placing him in the #1 spot on our All-Time Record board for that course. Another shout-out to Lily Garcia, our super Freshman, as she too stole the #1 spot for our team’s fastest All -Time F/S Girl at Gibson Ranch!

Hughson supercross

Fun in the Mud! Almost every division had team scores in the Top 3, while F/S Girls brought home the 1st place Trophy! Congratulations on another successful event. Meanwhile, I really enjoyed watching the video highlights of the mud pit. I hope you do too!

Tom Laythe Invite

A great day to preview the Section Championship course as well as some SJS Section Competition! With today being the first day of Fall Break, we were missing a bunch of our kiddos. Although, those that ran, pushed hard and performed well. Check out the highlight video:

TCAL 2

A School Record and 63 Personal Records Broken at TCAL #2 by Lincoln Athletes!!! A special congratulations to Lily Garcia for her 12:31 performance. Our fastest Lodi Lake time by a JV Girl yet! (Athletic.net shows faster times prior to 2016, but the course was only 1.8 then.). On top of that, Merrill West pulled all their varsity runners down in hopes of winning the JV Girls division. 3 of their top 5 are 11th graders, while our first 6 are only freshmen. That didn’t stop our JV Girls from taking the win 31/37!

JV Boys had a dominant race with Gehrke, Rayray and Nava going 1, 2, 3 across the line. Bonilla, Schlenger and Hadsall went 7-9 to secure another win over Lodi 21/70!

In the Varsity Girls race, 6 of the top 7 ran PR’s for a strong second place team finish. Emilly Ellison hung onto the Lodi girls pack, producing a sub 20 minute 5k, which added her to the list of top 10 fastest 5k girls in Lincoln History!

Meanwhile, Jeffrey Overgaard brought home another 1st place finish for the varsity boys, just missing the school record on that course by less than 1 second with his time of 15:47! Andrew Fritch had a breakthrough performance, hanging with Overgaard for the first 2 miles, even taking the lead or a bit back in the woods. Despite fighting through some nausea in the final mile, he finished 3rd overall in 16:07. Speaking of breakthrough performances, Justin Martinez became our number 3 man by shaving over 30 seconds off his PR from just 2 weeks ago! The team brought home another Lincoln victory scoring 32/65 over Tokay.

Woodbridge Invite

Woodbridge produces FAST times and huge PR’s! With almost 500 schools from 16 different States, the competition was fierce. All 7 of our varsity girls landed a new person record.  While our varsity boys hung on for dear life in the “Rated” race as the pack went through the first mile well under 5:00…. Congratulations to Jeffrey Overgaard who ran sub 15:00 fr 3 miles and was offered a full tuition scholarship from the CSU Fulton coach!

Frogtown Invite

Frosh/Soph girls finish 2nd and Sophomore Boys take the WIN at the Frogtown Invite. Dry, hot and hilly, but our kids ran smart and ran strong for their first time to Angels Camp. This is an important course to preview because we return to race on it again during playoffs, as it determines who will move on to the Section Championships. Well done Trojans!

Lowell Invite

A beautiful day at Golden Gate Park! The Lowell Invite has always been a great opportunity to break away from the heat of the valley and enjoy competing against some different schools. The park always offers a challenging , but fun running experience with plenty of trails, hills and lots of cheering teams. This year did not disappoint. Check out the highlight video and relive the action!

TCAL #1

Another impressive performance from Lincoln’s XC Team! Our JV Girls did what we expected with Lily finishing 1st overall to lead the team to a 1st place team finish. Ryenne, Maeve, Ellianna and Charlotte rounded off the top 5 to secure the win.

Most eyes were set on the JV Boys race. They had the biggest challenge as they were defeated by St. Mary’s and Lodi just a few weeks ago at the Lodi Flames Invite. It was a close race up front as Keagan battled it out with the top 3 finishers. Then Damien, Julian, Noah, Eric and Isaac all stepped up to finish in the top 10. At the end of the day, our boys rose to the challenge and brought home another 1st place team victory with a dominant score of 27 to Lodi’s 2nd with 53 points.

Our Varsity Girls had the biggest improvements as they shattered their personal records today!  Emily has consistently been Lincoln’s new top varsity girl, finishing in a time of 20:44 and a 42 sec. PR. Molly was our second finisher in 21:00 and a 23 sec PR. Francisca was only 17 seconds behind Molly with a 54 sec PR.  Grace was our fourth finisher, having only raced the 5k once before last year as a sophomore, shaved 3:50 off that time. Sophia became the last point scorer with her first ever 5k, officially joining the ranks of our top varsity girls squad. Leia is overcoming an injury since her last race earlier this season, but ran strong as our 6th girl. One of the biggest surprises was Ashonti, a 12th grader running cross country for the first time. She runs sprints during track, but built up her endurance enough to close out our Top 7!

Other than winning the race, our Varsity Boys squad was faced with the additional challenge of competing for a Top 7 spot and earning their way to the biggest cross country race in the United States (The Woodbridge Invite)! Not only did they finish 1st as a team, but Jeffrey outpaced the competition and placed 1st overall with a new PR in 15:55 (his first sub-16:00 5K ever). 2nd place was over 20 seconds behind! The remaining Top 7 now consists of Andrew (10 sec PR), Baylen, (20 sec PR), Cash (1:04 SR), Justin, and Logan. Then, for the first time ever, Kobi (30 sec. PR) added himself to Lincoln’s Top 7 and earned his position on the start line of the Woodbridge race.
