Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases significantly contribute to climate change. In 2015, nearly 200 countries agreed to take action to reduce emissions at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris.
China's 14th Five-Year Plan reflects its commitment to addressing climate change through various strategies. The plan establishes clear goals for reducing carbon emissions and moving towards sustainable energy sources.
Key initiatives include expanding renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power, constructing hydroelectric power stations, and implementing systems to monitor industrial pollution. Despite ambitions for a greener future, challenges remain as industrialization and urbanization continue to increase energy demand. In 2019, coal represented a large portion of China's energy consumption, with efforts underway to reduce this reliance.
Additionally, China emphasizes the importance of international collaboration, particularly in supporting developing countries through cooperative initiatives. This includes creating demonstration areas for low-carbon practices and providing training for officials to enhance climate action.
Achieving these goals will require significant financial investment over the coming decades, highlighting the need for partnerships across various sectors.
