Mrs. Peterson’s P.E. at Home

(1st Grade)

No Equipment Activities

· Maintain a balance with one base (example: stand on one foot), two bases (examples: one hand & one foot; two feet), three bases (examples: two hands & one foot; two feet & one hand) 4 bases (example: two feet & two hands). Try facing the floor, then turn over toward the ceiling without toppling over. Can you create other balances?

Make Your Own Equipment Ideas (Get permission & grown-up help first)

· Make a hopscotch game or sensory path on your driveway or sidewalk.

· Make a bean bag by rolling socks into a ball and then pressing it down flat.

Partner Activities

· Practice your skills by volleying a balloon over a piece of furniture with a partner.

· Partners face each other in a plank position. From this position, try to strike or roll a rolled-up pair of socks through your partner’s hands to score a goal. Who can score 10 points first?

Brain & Body Challenges

· Put numbers 1-20 in a giant number line on the floor (use small scraps of paper spread out in a line). Start at the 1 end: practice your numbers or math facts by jumping or hopping to the correct number on the line.

Addition: "What is 2+4?" Jump on 2, then hop to count on 3,4,5,6

Subtraction: "What is 7-3?" Run to 7, then jump back 3 times to end at 4

· Design your own race track by putting stuffed animals, plastic bottles, or cans as cones. Can you make your track into a round shape like a circle or oval? Can you make your track into a square, rectangle, or rhombus? Can you create a track with 3 corners like a triangle, or 5 corners like a pentagon?

Now choose a different movement for each lap around your track: run, hop, skip, jump, gallop. Can you safely walk backwards around your track?
