The Team

Team AMORE started as a Senior Project team in 2021. As part of their Senior Project, they started the LSSU RobotX Club.

Xavier Vicent Navarro

Club President

Xavi is a senior undergraduate student majoring in Robotics Engineering. He will be graduating in December 2023 with the bachelor degree mentioned and minors in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics. Xavi is from Cocentaina, Spain and has been playing tennis since he was 8 years old. His best skills are leadership, hardwork, teamwork and programming (VAL3, MATLAB, ROS, Arduino and C++).  He is the President of the LSSU RobotX club and also he will be leading the software application for the project. He is in the LSSU varsity tennis team and being the captain. In the future he would like to get a graduate degree in Robotics and to do a research related in any kind of Mobile Robots.

Zach Kassuba

Club Vice President

Zach is a Senior majoring in Conservation Biology, with a focus on freshwater and marine sciences and will be graduating in spring of 2024. His academic interests include limnology, ichthyology, water quality, and marine robotics. In his free time, Zach enjoys small engine mechanics, hiking, fishing, reading, and ATV trail riding. After graduating he plans on going to graduate school for biology concentrating in fisheries.

Daniel Twining

Dan is a third year dual Robotics Engineering and Mathematics major at LSSU. He is interested in mobile robotics, especially in the maritime domain, and has a strong background programming with C, Arduino, and MATLAB, and also hands-on experience with industrial Fanuc robots using KAREL software. Dan is proficient in CAD software such as Onshape, Fusion 360, and Creo Parametric, and has honed his skills with 3D printing and has several years of experience manufacturing custom parts and rapid prototyping.

Chase Jannetta

Chase is a Junior undergraduate student at LSSU dual majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Robotic Engineering. His current academic areas of interest are Mobile Robotics and Mechanical Design. He is currently the vice president of LSSU ASME. In his free time he enjoys hiking, playing sports, and fishing.

Ryan Houck

Ryan is a junior undergraduate student at Lake Superior State University. He will graduate in the spring of 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in Robotics Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. His academic interests include Autonomous Robots, Mobile Robots, and Machine Vision. Ryan enjoys reading, the outdoors, and learn 3D modeling in his free time. After graduation, he plans to pursue a master’s degree in Robotics Engineering.


Dillion Pohl

Dillion is a senior undergraduate student completing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Robotics concentration at LSSU. His strong suits include mechanical design, CAD modelling, equipment stress testing, and debugging code. Dillion's enjoys playing video and board games, listening to music, video production, and learning new things. After graduating from LSSU, Dillion wants to work in the field of automation. 

Maddie Whip

Maddie is a Sophomore undergraduate studying a double major in Mechanical Engineering and Robotics Engineering, graduating in 2025. Maddie is from Sydney Australia and a member of the LSSU Women’s Tennis Team achieving the GLIAC conference Freshman of the Year in 2022.  Maddie is an active outdoors person and is looking forward to taking the LSSU AMORE project back to her home country to inspire the next generation of students and greater collaboration across countries.  She intends to pursue a masters in Aerospace Engineering after graduation and will happily sit with you for hours to talk anything Marvel or Harry Potter.  

Michael Buchler

Michael is a senior undergraduate student majoring in Robotics Engineering. He will be graduating in December 2023 with a bachelor degree in Robotics Engineering. As well as a minor in Mathematics. Michael originated from a small little town in Alpena Michigan. His best skills are programming in MATLAB, ROS, C++, PLC, and Arduino. He also has a background in leadership and willingness to learn. Scouting is an extremely big part of his life since he started when he was 13 and aged out with achieving eagle scout rank with all three palms attached. 


Micheal Goldenbogen

Michael is a senior dual majoring in Computer and Robotics Engineering at Lake Superior State University. He is currently interested in the research and development of mobile autonomous systems. Proficient with Ubuntu, C++, and ROS, Michael brings many valuable skills to team AMORE. Michael's aptitude to learn new things outside of his range of expertise has allowed ongoing adaptability within the project and its needs.


 Nathan VanAntwerp 

Nathan is a freshman undergraduate student graduating in 2027 with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is familiar with CREO Parametric CAD software and various manufacturing processes. In his free time, Nathan enjoys woodworking, reading, and repairing mechanical devices. He is also involved with various other clubs on campus, including student chapters of IEEE and ASME.




Nikolas Curlett 

Nick is a senior electrical engineer at LSSU. His concentration is general, resulting in experience in many different fields. This experience includes fluency in KAREL, MATLAB, C, and PLC programming. As well as being skilled in LTspice, Eagle, and Qukartus for building and assembling circuitry. He has an interst in maritime mobile robotics, specifically the WAM-V.




Andrew Heiny

Club Secretary

Andrew is a Senior in Mechanical Engineering at LSSU. He is interested in robotic systems and prototype development. He enjoys spending time outdoors, especially canoeing and sailing. He hopes to pursue a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. and eventually work in development of extreme-environment automated systems. LSSU RobotX has given him and excellent opportunity to work with students in different disciplines on real-life engineering applications, and to learn more about topics not normally in the Mechanical a Engineering curriculum, such as digital communication and ROS.

Ryan Houck

Ryan is a fourth year Robotics Engineering student at Lake Superior State University. He is interested in artificial intelligence, mobile robotics, and industrial robotics. He has a strong programming background in C, C++, Arduino, and Allen Bradley PLCs. Ryan also has experience with FANUC industrial robots using ROBOGUIDE, KAREL, and a Teach Pendant. He has worked with SolidWorks, Creo, and AutoDesk. 




Collin Pajot

Collin is a Senior majoring in Mechatronics. He will be graduating spring 2024 with a bachelor's degree mentioned and a minor in robotics. His academic interests include Machine Vision and programming PLC's. He is a part of the LSSU Men's golf team and enjoys being outside, sports of any kind, and reading. After graduation he plans on going into a controls engineering position.



Stacy Bishop

 Stacy is a high school student from Brimley Area Schools, who is apart of the Sault Area Career Center in Digital Business. Her Digital Business class was asked to help Team AMORE with design for the website and she stepped up.  She is graduating high school in May and is looking forward to studying Robotics Engineering in college.  Stacy is  proud member of The Deceivers Robotics team 4392, and has been for 4 years. She is also a mentor of FLLC team 60588, The Deceptors.

Jessica Besonen

Club Treasurer

Jessica is a Junior dual-majoring in Robotics and Computer Engineering. She is also working to become certified in Space Operations. She will be graduating May 2026! She is interested in working with Industrial and Collaborative Robots, Artificial Intelligence, and Industry 4.0. Currently she is working on designing a cheap and easy to learn 6 axis  robotic arm to help teach the next generation of STEM students about robotics!

Taylor Lamorie

Taylor is an alumnus Computer Engineering Undergraduate at LSSU. His specialties include programing languages such as C++/C, VHDL, MATLAB, Python and Assembly Language. He also has experience with Digital Design, Microcontrollers and Signal Processing. His hobbies include watching his favorite hockey team Toronto Maple Leafs as well as playing hockey and going to the gym. He is currently working as a junior controls engineer at MEDATech in Collingwood, Ontario.

Shaede Perzanowski

Shaede is an LSSU alumnus with bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Robotics Engineering. He is now pursuing graduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University. His strong suits include mechanical design, Robot Operating System (ROS)  and Arduino knowledge base, and equipment troubleshooting. Shaede enjoys occupying his free time with reading, exercise, video games, and hunting. After graduating from MSU, Shaede plans to establish a career in automation.

Thomas Muir

Thomas is an LSSU alumni in Mechanical  Engineering. He also has a minor in mathematics and a concentration in robotics.  His academic areas of interest include industrial  robotics, machine vision, and mechanical design. In his free time he enjoys biking, camping, and reading books. After college he hopes to start a career in robotics integration.

Anthony Paradine

Anthony is an LSSU alumnus with a bachelors degrees in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in vehicle systems. His strong suits include mechanical design and prototyping along with model simulation and analysis. In his free time, he enjoys snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and camping. He is currently working in the automotive field at EAVX in ANN Arbor, Michigan as a mechanical engineer specializing in chassis integration.

Muskaan Ranjan

Muskaan Ranjan from Bangalore, India is a recent LSSU graduate. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a concentration in Robotics and Automation, and also has a minor in Mathematics and Theatre. She has been an avid tennis player since the age of 8 and played for the LSSU Women’s Tennis team. Muskaan is currently working in the Automation Industry as a Mechanical Engineer for JR Automation. During her free time she enjoys playing tennis, working out, acting, painting and constantly exploring the endless opportunities the Universe has to offer!


Bradley Hacker

Brad is an LSSU alumni in both Mechanical and Robotics Engineering. He also has a minor in Mathematics. Brad grew up on a farm and has future interests to pursue a career that furthers agricultural technology, specializing in mobile robotics. Brad will be assisting in the design and application of the software for the ASV, as well as assisting in mechanical and electrical design and application. Brad's hobbies include disc golf, competitive games with friends, and strategic video games.

Aaron Osmond

Aaron Osmond is a Senior Mechanical Engineering major with a concentration in Robotics and Automation and a minor in General Business. He is from England and he is passionate about math and tennis. He plays for the LSSU tennis team, and his plans are to graduate and pursue a Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering while playing tennis. He would like to work in the systems engineering or aerospace industry after he is finished with education. 

                                  

Hannah Brood

Hannah is a 5th year Mechanical Engineering and Robotics Engineering Undergraduate Student at LSSU. In addition, she is pursuing a certificate in Geographic Information Systems based on personal interest. Hannah was one of the original six senior project students that started Team AMORE. She hopes to someday work with mobile robots in unconventional environments and had an internship with the Advanced Power Systems Research Center (APSRC)  at Michigan Technological University where she got to work with autonomous vehicle research and development. When not busy with work or school, Hannah can most likely be found reading a book, or outside.

Matt Bowen

Matt is a Senior studying computer engineering at Lake Superior State University. He graduated spring of 2023. His academic interests include building adaptable and accessible systems using open source technology. Matt's goal is to contribute to community building projects in Michigan.

Sabrina VanAuker

Sabrina is a senior undergraduate student completing two bachelor's degrees in Robotics Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Her strong suits include In-sight Vision, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and system troubleshooting. In her free time, Sabrina enjoys spending time with friends and family along with hiking, playing guitar, and researching new engineering advancements, such as the work of Boston Dynamics. After graduating from LSSU, Sabrina plans to join the system integration industry as a controls engineer.  


Caleb Wilson

Caleb is senior undergraduate student at Lake Superior State University studying Robotics Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. His academic interests include Mobile Robotics, Machine Vision, and Machine Learning. Caleb enjoys being outdoors and active, as well as design audio amplifiers in his free time. After graduation he plans on going to graduate school for Machine Vision and Artificial Intelligence.

Advisors

Dr. Edoardo Sarda

Edoardo is the faculty adviser of Team AMORE; he is an Assistant Professor of Robotics Engineering at Lake Superior State University, Sault Ste. Marie, MI, USA. His expertise is in autonomous vehicles, mobile robotics, human-robot collaboration, automated systems, and modern control. He is also a former RobotX competitor. Edoardo’s hobbies include downhill skiing, scuba diving, Formula 1, and traveling.

Dr. Travis Moscicki 

Travis is a professional liaison to Team Amore.  He recently finished his Ph.D. at Florida Atlantic University, and now works for NIWC Pacific.  A lover of the robotics community, Travis competed in five RoboBoat’s, three RobotX’s, one VRX, and attended the 2017 RobotX Forum. 

Mario Miranda 

Supporting Team Amore as an industry outreach professional, Mario is a Systems Architect & Engineering Project Manager for Sparton Corporation, a Tier 1 Navy provider for undersea warfare solutions. He brings engineering experience as a specialist in the development of underwater unmanned systems. Prior to joining Sparton, Mario has worked as a civilian for Government facilities, including legacy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SPAWAR-PAC), now Naval Warfare Information Center Pacific (NIWC-PAC), at their Bayside Robotics Laboratory in San Diego, California with his focus in underwater vehicle development pertaining to propulsion system optimization; as well as part of the Atlantic Center for the Innovation Design and Control of Small Ships (ACCeSS) consortium within the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Carderock Division with his focus in acoustic localization and underwater navigation & guidance. More recently prior to joining Sparton, Mario held position as an Ocean Systems Engineer at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, followed by Systems Engineer at legacy Harris Corporation’s Space and Intelligence Systems (SIS) segment within the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) group in development of recently launched and newly operating low Earth orbit (LEO) space vehicles and satellite communication systems. Prior to and during the merge of L3Harris Technologies, Mario spent several years as, both, Advanced Concepts Engineer (ACE) and Chief Systems Engineer (CSE) for the Maritime Systems group in development of underwater vehicles with specialized robotic manipulation capabilities. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science (B.S.) degree, Masters of Science (M.Sc.) degree and is in candidacy for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.c.) all in Ocean Engineering with a specialty in underwater multi-modal acoustic and optical communication systems from Florida Atlantic University’s SeaTech, Institute for Ocean and Systems Engineering. He was also a competitor of the inaugural RobotX competition in 2014.
