Project LS "The Laramie Project" and "National Coming Out Day"

October 12th 2018

A huge thank you to Carly Evans for both the vision and the follow-through to craft the reading of the Laramie Project on October 12th. It was an incredibly powerful performance that allowed 40 students and 40 faculty members to spark dialogue and raise concerns regarding violence in the LGBTQ+ community.

Prior to the reading, the students of the Gay Straight Alliance Club (GSA) gathered to host a student-facilitated panel aimed at sharing their experiences as LGBTQ+ students at Lincoln-Sudbury. The students expressed why stories such as the one being told in the Laramie Project are important and relevant, as we, an educational institution, continue our active discussion about how we address differences in our LS community. The students were thoughtful and informative in their discussion of how we can continue our efforts to support students who identify as LGBTQ+, and continue to foster an inclusive, welcoming environment to students.

Project LS "You are Important" Community Mural

Fall-Winter 2017

Alex Cook, creator of over 150 murals across the country, worked with students from all parts of the building, who each helped paint a part of the "You are Important" mural mounted proudly in the heart of LS. Speaking at a November Art community viewing event at LS, he highlighted how his “You are” murals undercut pervasive and pernicious messages about students value and worth on the internet. This Project LS Community Mural involved many hands: Over 40 students met at lunch to brainstorm possible messages, 600 voted on google ballot to select the message, and around 200 students helped to paint the mural (more info about Project LS).
