About me
Hello First Grade students and families! My name is Michelle West and I have been teaching at PVE since 2016. I am excited for another year of fun in first grade!
I grew up at Lake Lotawana and I attended Archbishop O’Hara High School. Through the University of Central Missouri, I received a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood education. I also have my Master’s degree in Literacy in Education from UCM.
I began my career as an early educator. After three years, I realized how much I missed the elementary setting so I substitute taught in various districts. Through this position, I had the opportunity to be a long term substitute in both the Kansas City and Lee’s Summit school districts.
Since I grew up on a lake, of course I enjoy being outdoors and doing anything water related. I enjoy slalom skiing, kayaking, swimming, and surfing. Out of the water I enjoy traveling, hiking, reading, making pies and taking NAPS! Now if only I could work those naps into my daily schedule… :)
My favorite things include iced coffee, gummy bears, chocolate, and pizza! My favorite color is lime green-as you will see in my classroom! I also enjoy a good movie every now and then, and a beautiful sunset on the front porch. Family time is also important to me, so I spend a lot of time with them
In the Classroom
I am passionate about creating a community of learners in my classroom. I believe every person that walks into this classroom should feel secure, confident, loved, and respected. With this mentality, students can be more focused on their learning and help others learn as well.
I also believe in the power of teamwork. This team involves the teacher, parent, and the student. Working together will help every student be more successful, which is why I am looking forward to working with you!
