HOLIDAY PROGRAMS

During holiday periods, we offer a diverse range of aquatic programs, including Bush Nippers, Junior Lifeguard Courses, and Water Exercise sessions. These programs not only provide valuable recreational opportunities for participants but also contribute significantly to our revenue income.

To ensure their success, we meticulously plan and coordinate these programs well in advance. By strategically advertising them through various channels such as local and surrounding town school newsletters, our Facebook page, and other community platforms, we aim to maximise participation and engagement. Advertising typically commences no later than week 6 of the school term, allowing for at least four weeks of promotion.

We also create activity plans and promotional flyers, and ensure that staff members assigned to conduct the programs are duly notified in advance.

POOL SETUP

EQUIPMENT

In the storeroom, instructors have access to a variety of equipment to enhance swimming lessons, including pool noodles, mats, swim toys, sinkers, kickboards and swim benches. Additionally, there are noodle ropes available for separating areas as needed.

It is essential to maintain cleanliness and organisation in the storeroom, ensuring that all equipment is stored in its designated location. Any damaged equipment should be promptly reported to the manager on duty for assessment and repair.

Special care should be taken with platforms, as they are valuable assets. When using platforms, they should be carefully placed in the pool, and two employees are required to remove them from the water after use to prevent damage or injury.

Key points:

Keep area organised and clean.
Return used equipment to its designated storage location; borrowing requires prompt return.
Clean equipment at the end of each term. This is the responsibilty of the coordinator to ensure this takes place.
Report any broken or damaged equipment to the Coordinator or Duty Manager.
Prohibit leaving equipment in front of emergency exit door.
Instructors have the option to purchase their own equipment.
Handle swim benches with care; avoid rough handling as they are delicate and expensive. Two staff members required for bench removal.

POOL SETUP

Before the commencement of lessons, it is essential to ensure that the pool area is properly set up for the day's activities. This responsibility primarily falls on the coordinator, who should oversee the arrangement of lesson areas and the placement of necessary equipment.

Coordinator Responsibilities

Set up lesson areas before lesson commencement.
Arrange platforms on the pool deck and prepare equipment tubs for each instructor.
Place a public sign indicating "LTS" (Learn to Swim) in the designated lesson area.
Ensure tablets are charged, correctly in waterproof covers, and ready for instructors' use.
Be present on the pool deck during lessons, conducting roving patrols to ensure instructors' setups are correct, checking in with instructors, and being approachable for parents' questions/concerns.
Assist with the pack-up process, including lifting platforms with the assistance of instructors. This task requires two people for safety and efficiency.
Level distances are to be laminated and correcty spaced up on display on the wall.

Instructor Responsibilities

Arrive at least 10 minutes before the lesson's start time to check in with the coordinator or duty manager upon arrival, in order to assist with setup or discuss any concerns with the coordinator. Collect the tablet and ensure it is ready for use.
Be on the pool deck, in the designated lesson area, at least 2 minutes before the commencement of the first lesson to ensure readiness and promptness in starting the lesson.
Ensure platforms are moved to correct distance lengths between lessons.

Key Points for Setting Up

Confirm your designated area with the manager or coordinator.
Ensure the "Learn to Swim" sign is prominently displayed.
Arrive early to organize your equipment and lane space effectively.
Adjust lane ropes or set up noodle ropes as needed to create an isolated area for lessons.
For Saturday LTS lessons, ensure the pool is set up with noodle ropes. The Manager on Duty should assist in informing parents of their child's designated area during the first few weeks and clarify that their child's lesson area remains consistent. If there is another instructor for any reason, parents should be directed to the same area.
Instructors are to add 15 minutes to their shift time to allow for the 10minutes for set up and 5 minutes for pack up.
If an instructor is still on shift after the completion of lessons, they are required to quickly change and return to the deck to resume duties within 5 minutes. Pack-up responsibilities should be left to other instructors and the coordinator to ensure readiness to resume work.

INSTRUCTOR UNIFORMS

Qualified instructors must wear a WaterSchool Instructor Top at all times during lesson sessions. Shadow Instructors, who are undergoing training, are required to wear an eyeline instructor top in either pink/blue or green/blue colors to ensure they are easily identifiable.

To maintain comfort and warmth, wetsuits and a limited number of Toastees are provided and can be worn underneath the instructor tops.

These uniforms are communal and should be kept on the premises at all times. If you wish to have your pwn instructor top, one can be purchased at cost price.

After each use, they must be thoroughly rinsed in fresh water and hung up to dry. On favorable weather days, they can be hung outside, or alternatively on the clothesline in the storeroom. Additionally, the instructor tops will be washed once a week to ensure cleanliness and hygiene.

KEY WORK PLACE HEALTH + SAFETY ITEMS

It is highly important that our learn to swim instructors:

Never turn their back on a non-swimming child. Use the ledge and a rectangle formation when teaching Water Awareness and Water Novice Levels, which allows the instructor to keep eyes on participants at all times.
Follow L+R Group's Safe Diving Policy and never teach standing diving into water 1.5m or below.
Don't leave mats lying on the ground as they are slippery when wet.
Use the assistance button if you need anything. Do not leave children in the pool unattended for any reason.
Also, use the assistance button for removing platforms from the pool if the coordinator isn't already on pool deck to assist. This is a 2 person job.
Keep the store area clear and tidy, ensuring no equipment is blocking the emergency exit door.
If using the large mats for jump-ins, ensure you are standing on the side the children enter the mat from.
