Grades 3 - 5 come to Art once a week, for 50 minutes. Students are learning the TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior) method of creating. Students explore different "Centers" such as Drawing, Painting, Fibers, Sculpture, Collage and Printmaking. They are exposed to different techniques and media through "mini-lessons". Students are encouraged to experiment and explore new media as well as challenge themselves in some way. Students do practice work in their sketchbooks and also a final piece. They write about their art to explain the ideas, the thinking and learning behind the piece in the process. They write an Artist Statement about their art, giving it a Title, describing their piece and why they did it.
