Four days in a nutshell. This is what happened in Copenhagen.
DAY 1
The Danish students welcome the new headmaster and the Erasmus + media project with a special event : breakfast and buffet and a student band playing Danish music.
After that all students and teachers involved in the Erasmus+ project met in a room on the top floor. The Danish students had prepared activities to get to know each other. Ice breakers. All in international groups.
After that the students followed their hosts to a class in school. This morning it was Drama, Media, Music or Art. One of these subjects is compulsory for all students at Orestad Gymnasium to follow.
DAY 2
The students got a lecture on the Youth Island called Ungdomsøen by a volunteer.
She explained the project of this island ruled and restored by young people willing to find alternative ways of working together. She also showed how they develop their media communication among the community.
This experiment is based on 5 dogmas, which all fit nicely into the aims and ideas of our project.
In small groups, the students exchanged on the similarities and differences that they found out and drew conclusions on the use of the media among young people in the 4 countries.
DAY 3
Today we met the school’s media team for a presentation of their monthly livestream called 'samling'. It means “to gather” in Danish. Every month, the students make a video of what happens in schools, make a live interview and live stream it. Everybody watches at the same time. We got the chance to visit the recording studio and also got a quick explanation on how it works (cameras / projectors / screens / editing computer …). Our task was to create videos in small international groups and the media students will select the production and integrate them into the next 'samling' episode.
DAY 4
Today we attended a conference on democracy and the possible actions of a European citizen.
A volunteer from an association gave us a lecture and statistics on the last elections in Denmark, Hungary, Sweden and France.
Then she told us about a festival for young people that talks about the importance of democracy, there are also concerts and speeches by young people, it takes place on 2 and 3 September and there seems to be a very good atmosphere (maybe we will visit to go next year...).
We then worked in groups of 4 (1 from each country) on neutrality in journalism.
We took a recent example with the article on "Trump impeachment", our role was to see why this article was not neutral and to make it more neutral and accessible to young people.
Finally, we took turns presenting our ideas to the other groups.
Then we went to a technology class and worked with students on traditional media, in the second hour of the afternoon we took a class on robots.
Finally, a snack with all the delegations was organized. We had a great time :)
