Installing Screencastify on out new MacBooks has created some problems. Here are some suggestions from the company to get it working correctly!
If you're troubleshooting an issue, you may also want to try the following steps in this order. (They help solve a huge percentage of tickets we receive!) :
- Log out and log back in to our Chrome extension
- Restart your computer
- Update your extension to make sure you're using the latest version. Here's a quick video on how to do that:
- Uninstall and reinstall our Chrome extension

The newest versions of MacOS's require users to allow screen recording. If you have not enabled screen recording, you will receive a "Failed to Start Recording" error in Screencastify.
Luckily, allowing screen recordings is a simple process. Here are the necessary steps:
Navigate to System Preferences
Select Security & Privacy
On the far right, select Privacy
On the left, select Screen Recording
Check the box to the left of Google Chrome.
