Your senior project is a wonderful opportunity! LOHS Seniors are required to spend twenty hours learning something new while developing their skills. This page explores the various tasks required to complete your senior project:
- Senior Project Proposal (Due by 10/22)
- Mentor Form (Due by 11/19)
- SP Flier (Due by 12/12)
- SP Proposal Presentation (12/19/25)
- Progress Reports (1/28, 2/25, 3/18)
It is time to turn your ideas into a single measureable project. All projects must have a starting point, plans, and an end goal. You will outline these essential components in your Senior Project Declaration Narrative. This is your final pitch for your senior project. Proposals must be submitted for approval by October 22nd. Projects will be approved on a first come, first served basis.
A few important reminders:
1. The Senior Project Declaration Narrative must be signed by parent/guardian. Please discuss your plans with your parents/guardians.
2. Use formal academic writing - Your final SP Declaration Narrative should be free of spelling and grammar errors. You are in your final year of high school, and your writing should reflect that. This is not the time to be brief in your response, as always, single sentence answers are unacceptable. Be specific and detailed.
3. Be original and unique with your project idea.
4. How will the experience be a learning stretch for you? How will the project coordinators evaluate your success? This is important and critical for approval for your project. Be thoughtful in your response.
5. Submit your signed narrative to Google Classroom.
Submission instructions:
The Senior Project Proposal Cover Sheet must be the first page of the Senior Project packet. The following documents must be stapled behind it in the order listed:
Senior Project Proposal, typed
Backwards Mapping Plan, handwritten
Packets not submitted in the correct order may be returned for resubmission.
DUE BY NOVEMBER 19th
Form must be completed and signed by Mentor and Parent/Guardian.
A hard copy of the form will be provided in senior classes. Has your project been approved, and you know who will be your mentor? Turn form into SP Panel Coordinators as soon as completed - don't wait until November 19th.
FLYER DUE BY DECEMBER 12th - PRESENT FLYER DECEMBER 19th
The purpose of the flyer is to introduce and advertise your Senior Project. Flyers must be submitted to Google Classroom by Friday, December 12th. Be creative when assembling the flier and include the following information:
- Your Name
- Mentor’s name
- Title of Senior Project
- Brief project description
- Statement of “possible” research area
- Community Service
- Illustration or other visual information
- Words must be typed. No hand writing!
- No spelling or grammar errors
Only complete, clear, and professional flyers will be printed. Completed flyers must include all of the listed information, and must be free of spelling and grammar mistakes. These fliers will be posted on campus, and presented to classes.
Senior Project Proposal Presentation - On December 19th, you will give a 1-2 minute presentation on your plans in multiple classrooms. Attendance is required that day, and presentations cannot be completed sooner.
It is up to you to set an appointment with teachers BEFORE your presentation on Friday, December 19th.
JANUARY 28 - FEBRUARY 25 - MARCH 18
For your senior project, you'll maintain a time log that serves as a journal to document your progress. Each entry should explain the following components:
Date/Time: Record when you worked on your project and how much time you spent.
Evidence: Provide a brief description of the work you completed. Include a hyperlink to a slideshow featuring pictures or videos that showcase your progress.
Success: Reflect on what went well during your work session. Highlight any achievements or positive outcomes.
Challenges: Discuss any issues or obstacles you encountered and explain how you overcame them.
What’s Next?: Outline your plan for the next steps in your project, setting clear goals for your upcoming work.
This log will help you stay organized, track your progress, and reflect on your journey as you complete your senior project.
Instructions
Make a copy of the Senior Project Progress Report and put it in your Senior Project folder in Google Drive
Add additional rows to the table each time you work on SP
Insert hyperlinks, pics/videos of progress in evidence
Turn in Senior Project Signature Form (parent and mentor signatures) for each due date
For each Progress Report, you'll need to provide detailed evidence (descriptions, pictures, links, videos, etc) to highlight your progress.
April 22
Senior Project hours must be complete by Wednesday, April 22nd. Students will need to prove that you have met the projects requirements. For verification, seniors will have a "Show and Tell" day in the senior English and Economics classes. Be prepared to share about your project with your class, and have some items to show off (physical project, materials, pictures, etc).
