Hamlet Playlists Class of 2025
On March 13, 2024, during the 10th grade's last hour of class as always everyone was exhausted. After all, it was the lesson after TRION and lunch, and all the energy of those 14 teenagers had been turned off during the day. Maria Paula, our teacher, knew that, but she had come prepared. The day before, we had just finished watching the 1996 movie adaptation of Hamlet, and we started thinking about our summative assessment. The task was straightforward and clear, we had to choose a character from the play: Hamlet, Ophelia, Polonius, Laertes, King Claudius, or Queen Gertrude, then find a song that we could relate to our chosen character, and analyze a part from the song. The selection of songs reflected the character’s feelings and thoughts so well, that we decided to create 3 different playlists for you to enjoy. One that relates to Hamlet, another to Ophelia, and a third one to their relationship. We hope you are moved in the same way we were when working on this assignment.

LIFESTEALER
María Lucía Fonseca Rueda. 8º
I woke up on a regular school day,
I eat my cereal bowl
that looks like a cool pool with a spoon.
My parents took me to school
and I told them “I love both of you”.
I got out of the car and
saw the beautiful view,
with a blue sky
and waiting for a new day at school.
I was laughing with my friends
until the teacher came in.
Talking with a loud voice
which makes me hear a strange noise.
We started to work on a project,
I was so stressed,
I started to breathe and suddenly
I felt a pain in my chest.
I heard people yelling and asking for help.
I was so scared
and the only thing I did was pray.
The shooter came in,
I made eye contact with him.
I closed my eyes,
I felt fear and listened to children crying.
Suddenly everything was silent,
I saw my friends on the floor,
with a huge river of blood.
This took Adam, the shooter,
only ten minutes
to kill our freedom.
He stole our lives with a Bushmaster gun,
and our parents didn’t have time
to call 911.
After all the disaster,
he thought he was a master.
And with music in the background,
I listened to that was...
“All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks
You better run, better run outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks.

In a land of vibrant hues, where tulips bloom
Their beauty shines, dispelling any gloom
dancing to the sun, they weren’t done
Tulips swaged, their beauty second to none
The whispering wind was not here
In late August just met fear.
Deforestation and climate change take their toll
Their resilience echoed, nature's “HARMONY” was restored
Among the tulips full of life and bright
A footstep falls, restoring their light
But fear not, for nature’s resilient grace
Will restore their beauty in every trace
Imagine a world that thrives.
Where their vibrant petals continued to strive
A tapestry of colores, symphony of grace
Let’s ensure their presence in every trace
Pink, red, purple, a lively cascade
But even in death their beauty remains
Delightful you are just as perfect as the…
ENOUGH

On a mad mood Monday morning
saw a little girl walking
(click-click) the girl was there
( click-click) where she went?
She flew away like a balloon in the air.
DAD: I saw my little girl walking.
MOM: So beautiful she is. Don't you think?
DAD: Yes I can see, so beautiful that I can't blink.
MOM: Imagine her with her degree...
DAD: We will be so proud of her, you will see...
On a mad mood Monday morning
I looked for the girl, who was she?
and bad ideas about her I was conspiring,
that beautiful girl that I see.
That's the one I want for me.
Making a plan for having fun
I’m going to abduct you and you can't run.
I'm a pedophile if you must know
and I will take you before you grow.
DAD: I saw my little girl from the window,
she took the bus to school, she went very slow.
MOM: Ohh, now our little girl is missing, where did she go?
She didn't come back home, where did she go?
The days passed and we didn’t know where she was.
Abducted by a bad man I was,
Cry and run was all I ever wanted to go for...
But finally, I found my way,
overcoming the pain I suffered day by day,
I rise above as a phoenix,
and run away with my spirit unbroken
and THE nightmare is gone.

A Look Into Frankenstein
Alejandra Güiza Barbosa. 9A
For Language and Literature class, we got to read Mary Shelley’s famous book “Frankenstein”, and with it, for an activity, we had the chance to rewrite a part of the story, and modify anything we wanted, so the story could take a new twist based on personal preferences. Before presenting my changes and my version, here is some context on the original novel:
In a series of letters, Robert Walton, the captain of a ship heading to the North Pole, encounters Victor Frankenstein, who has been traveling by dog-drawn sled across the ice and is weakened by the cold. Walton takes him on board and starts to hear the story of Victor’s creation and the reason why he ended up at the North Pole.
At the end of a childhood spent in the company of Elizabeth Lavenza (his adopted sister) and friend Henry Clerval, Victor entered the University of Ingolstadt to study natural philosophy and chemistry. Filled with knowledge and greed, he decides to start collecting body parts so he can make a living creature on its own and challenge all the beliefs of life and death. One night, in his apartment, he brings his creation to life, however, by seeing the creature, he is horrified. After a night of sleep, interrupted by the specter of the monster appearing over him, he runs into the streets, filled with remorse. Victor runs into Henry, who has come to study at the university, and he takes his friend back to his apartment.
Victor gets ill but wants to return to Geneva with his family. Just before departing Ingolstadt, however, he receives a letter from his father informing him that his youngest brother, William, has been murdered. While passing through the woods where William was strangled, he sees the monster and concludes that the monster is his brother's murderer. Victor becomes guilty, knowing that the monster he has created is responsible for the death of loved ones. Hoping to ease his thoughts, Victor takes a vacation to the mountains, where he faces the creature. The monster admits to being the murderer of William but begs for understanding. The monster begs Victor to create a mate for him, a monster equally horrible, to serve as his companion.
Victor refuses at first, horrified by the idea of creating a second monster, but in the end, he accepts to create a companion. After returning to Geneva, Victor heads for England, accompanied by Henry, to gather information for the creation of a female monster. One night, struck by doubts about the morality of his actions, Victor glances out the window to see the monster staring at him with a frightening grin. Horrified by the possible consequences of his work, Victor destroys his new creation, which causes the monster to become “evil” and swears to take revenge on Victor.
Later that night, Victor takes a boat out onto a lake and dumps the remains of the second creature in the water. Later, Henry is found dead, but when the body is shown, Victor is shocked to behold his friend, with the mark of the monster's fingers on his neck.
Shortly after returning to Geneva, Victor marries Elizabeth. He returns home to his father, who dies of grief a short time later. Then on Victor's wedding night, Elizabeth is murdered by the monster, so Victor decides to chase him until he can end the monster’s life. During the chase, Victor almost catches up with the monster, but the ice breaks, leaving a gap between them. At this point, Walton encounters Victor. Walton tells the remainder of the story in another series of letters to his sister. Victor, already ill, dies shortly thereafter. When Walton returns, several days later, to the room in which the body lies, he is surprised to see the monster crying over Victor.
What I would change about the novel is the part where Victor Frankenstein destroys the monster's female companion, and the monster takes revenge by killing Victor’s loved ones.
In my opinion, this is a fundamental part of the story, because it is the exact part where the monster starts to transform into an evil and lonely being, maybe if something different had happened, the monster would have never killed Henry or Elizabeth, or in another scenario, the monster would have become more powerful with his companion, and that would bring even more adrenaline and suspense to the novel.
In my version, when Victor sees the monster through the window, he destroys his companion-to-be, but the monster decides to take revenge another way: he attacks Victor. He takes all the body parts he was using to build the companion. Then, after Victor leaves and searches for Henry, the monster enters Victor's lab and decides to build his companion all by himself. After he brings her to life, they become lovers and partners in crime. Together, they began to seek for revenge. The monster couple kills Henry, Elizabeth, and everyone that Victor loves, but that’s not the end of revenge. When Victor decides to dedicate the rest of his days to destroying the monster couple, they tend him to a trap, where they capture him and torture him until he dies. After that, the monster starts to feel guilty, and even though his companion insists that they get rid of the body, he refuses, so they decide that as a way to preserve Victor’s memory and his body, they use Victor’s body parts to create a new member of the monster family, a son for the monster couple.
This would change a few things in the story, including that the narrator and the person who is telling the story to Walton would have to be someone different, maybe a person who saw how the monster transformed Victor into his son, or maybe the monster' son with Victor’s memories.
