Week 33: Willie Seaweed
This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Willie Seaweed. He was a master wood carver and was known for his totem poles. He helped remember and pass down traditions of the Kwakuitl people. We created our own totem poles with different animals and creatures.

Week 31: Claude Monet
This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Claude Monet. We found out that he painted in an impressionistic style which has bright colors and small brushstrokes. He enjoyed painting water lilies and planted his own lily pond so he could paint them all the time. We created our own lily pond artwork like his.

Week 29: Georgia O'Keeffe
This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Georgia O'Keeffe. We found out that she loved nature and wanted to find ways to show the world how wonderful it was. We created large flower drawings similar to the large scale flower paintings that made O'Keeffe a famous artist.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Rene Magritte. We found out that he created artwork that is called Surrealism and looks like strange dreams. We created a surreal artwork of a bird.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Charles Russell and Fredric Remington. We found out that they were both inspired by the Wild West. We created desert landscapes with 3-D flowers.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Wassily Kandinsky. We found out that he was inspired by sounds and music. He was one of the first artists to create Abstract art. We created circle trees inspired by one of Kandinsky's famous paintings.

Week 25: Vincent Van Gogh
This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Vincent Van Gogh. We found out that he painted in an impressionistic style which has bright colors and small brushstrokes. He enjoyed painting colorful things and very much enjoyed sunflowers. We created our own sunflower painting like his.

Week 24: Roy Lichtenstein
This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Roy Lichtenstein. We found out that he created large artworks that looked like ads from the newspapers or comic books called Pop Art. He created artwork that used lines and dots and bright colors to make it look as though is was printed. We created our own stamps with foam and made it into food similar to what some of Roy's artworks looked like.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Edward Hopper. We discovered that he enjoyed making artwork of buildings and lighthouses. He created artwork that captured moments of everyday life and the way light made them beautiful. We created our own lighthouse in a torn paper collage.

Week 21: Henri Rousseau
This week we began learning about Pageant artists from the past. We started with Henri Rousseau. We discovered that he enjoyed making paintings of jungles but never went to a jungle himself. He used his imagination and photos to create cool jungle scenes. We used our imagination to draw a giraffe similar to what he did in the past.

Week 20: Rainbow Fish Illustration
This week we talked about how artwork that is in books is called an Illustration. We listened to the book Rainbow Fish and looked through its illustrations. Then we created our own illustration of the fish and got to finish it off with some cool silver paint.

This week we talked about symmetry. We created a symmetrical bug being observed through a magnifying glass. In the background we used our creativity to make the plants that bug would be exploring.

This week we talked about Form which is one of the Elements of Art. We created our own unique 3-D cakes. Then they were decorated with different kinds of lines and patterns.

Week 17: Monsters Love Colors Painting
This week we finished our project that we started after reading Monsters Love Colors. We were reminded of what Primary Colors (Red, Yellow, and Blue) are used to create the Secondary Colors (Orange, Green, and Purple). We used these six colors to paint in our silly monsters drawn last week.

This week we read the book Monsters Love Colors. It showed us again what Primary colors we use to create Secondary colors. We drew our own silly monsters and will use them next week to practice mixing our own colors.

This week we talked about Primary and Secondary Colors. We discussed which Primary colors create Secondary colors. We practiced cutting and gluing colored shapes to create bugs that will help us remember how to mix colors.

This week we read a book Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner. It was all about the silly things snowmen do while we are sleeping. We drew our own snowmen on blue paper and used our imagination to draw what silly things we thought they might be doing.
