This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Rene Magritte. We found out that he created artwork that is called Surrealism and looks like strange dreams. We created a surreal artwork of a bird.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Wassily Kandinsky. We found out that he was inspired by sounds and music. He was one of the first artists to create Abstract art. We created circle trees inspired by one of Kandinsky's famous paintings.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Roy Lichtenstein. We found out that he created large artworks that looked like ads from the newspapers or comic books called Pop Art. He created artwork that used lines and dots and bright colors to make it look as though is was printed. We created our own stamps with foam and made it into food similar to what some of Roy's artworks looked like.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Edgar Degas. We discovered that he enjoyed making artwork of ballerinas. He created artwork that captured moments of everyday life. We created our own ballerinas with 3-D tutus.

This week we talked about how artwork that is in books is called an Illustration. We listened to the book Rainbow Fish and looked through its illustrations. Then we created our own illustration of the fish and got to finish it off with some cool silver paint.

This week we talked about Form which is one of the Elements of Art. We created our own unique 3-D cakes. Then they were decorated with different kinds of lines and patterns.

This week we read the book Monsters Love Colors. It showed us again what Primary colors we use to create Secondary colors. We drew our own silly monsters and will use them next week to practice mixing our own colors.

This week we used Lines and Shapes again which are Elements of Art. We imagined up our own unique and awesome castles.

This week we read a book Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner. It was all about the silly things snowmen do while we are sleeping. We drew our own snowmen on blue paper and used our imagination to draw what silly things we thought they might be doing.

This week we learned about Texture which is one of the Elements of Art. We collected leaves and then learned how to create a leaf rubbing by holding our crayon on its side and revealing the leaf texture.

This week we learned about Portraits which is a drawing of a person. We practiced by creating our own Frankenstein monster.

This week we learned about Color which is one of the Elements of Art. We learned about which colors are Warm colors and which are Cool colors. We practiced by creating a hot dog using all warm colors and a cool cat by using all cool colors.

This week we learned about Shape which is one of the Elements of Art. We then used different kinds of shapes to create an owl. We also practiced using our correct cutting and gluing skills to assemble the owl.

This week we learned about Line which is one of the Elements of Art. We listened to the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds since Tuesday 9/14 was International Dot Day. We then used different kinds of lines to create our own masterpiece framed in gold just like the character in the book.
