Week 33: Willie Seaweed

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Willie Seaweed. He was a master wood carver and was known for his totem poles. He helped remember and pass down traditions of the Kwakuitl people. We created our own totem poles with different animals and creatures.

Week 31: Claude Monet

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Claude Monet. We found out that he painted in an impressionistic style which has bright colors and small brushstrokes. He enjoyed painting water lilies and planted his own lily pond so he could paint them all the time. We created our own lily pond artwork like his.

Week 30: Georgia O'Keeffe

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Georgia O'Keeffe. We found out that she loved nature and wanted to find ways to show the world how wonderful it was. We created flower sculptures out of homemade clay.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Rene Magritte. We found out that he created artwork that is called Surrealism and looks like strange dreams. We created a surreal self portrait with some of our favorite things.

Week 26: Wassily Kandinsky

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Wassily Kandinsky. We found out that he was inspired by sounds and music. He was one of the first artists to create Abstract art. We created iconic Russian buildings called Onion Domes that are colorful and have interesting shapes just like Kandinsky's artwork.

Week 25: Vincent Van Gogh

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Vincent Van Gogh. Week 24: Roy Lichtenstein

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Roy Lichtenstein. We found out that he created large artworks that looked like ads from the newspapers or comic books called Pop Art. He created artwork that used lines and dots and bright colors to make it look as though is was printed. We created our own stamps with foam and made it into food similar to what some of Roy's artworks looked like.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Edward Hopper. We discovered that he enjoyed making artwork of buildings and lighthouses. Week 21: Henri Rousseau

This week we began learning about Pageant artists from the past. We started with Henri Rousseau. We discovered that he enjoyed making paintings of jungles but never went to a jungle himself. He used his imagination and photos to create cool jungle scenes. We used our imagination to draw a jungle animal similar to what he did in the past.

Week 20: Creature in a Bottle

This week we quickly looked at an artist duo called kudu-lah that makes cool creatures in bottles. We used them as inspiration and created our own imaginary creatures in bottles.

This week we looked at the book Flashlight by Lizi Boyd. We talked about what an illustration is and created our own nighttime illustrations. We looked at different kinds of nocturnal animals to draw in our artwork.

Week 17: 1-Point Perspective Farm

Week 16: Pop-Up City Landscape

Week 15: Still Life

This week we talked about Still Lives. There were two options of a still life that we cold practice drawing, and we each chose one and worked on the skill of drawing what we are looking at. Week 14: Texture Castle

Week 9: Complementary Color Op Art

This week we learned about Color which is one of the Elements of Art. We discussed Complementary colors. We then used these colors and created an Optical Illusion artwork. We used Complementary colors to make our Op art look like it was popping off the paper by tricking the eye and creating different values from complementary colors.

Week 8: Value Pumpkin

This week we learned about Value which is one of the Elements of Art.
