This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Georges Seurat. He was a painter the came up with the style "pointalism". We created our own pointalist drawings.

This week we took a break and challenged our imaginations. The challenge was to create a drawing of an animal eating a silly snack.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Georgia O'Keeffe. We found out that she loved nature and wanted to find ways to show the world how wonderful it was. We created flower sculptures out of homemade clay.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Rene Magritte. We found out that he created artwork that is called Surrealism and looks like strange dreams. We created a surreal self portrait with some of our favorite things.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Wassily Kandinsky. We found out that he was inspired by sounds and music. He was one of the first artists to create Abstract art. We created iconic Russian buildings called Onion Domes that are colorful and have interesting shapes just like Kandinsky's artwork.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Roy Lichtenstein. We found out that he created large artworks that looked like ads from the newspapers or comic books called Pop Art. He created artwork that used lines and dots and bright colors to make it look as though is was printed. We created our own stamps with foam and made it into food similar to what some of Roy's artworks looked like.

This week we continue learning about Pageant artists from the past. This time we learned about Edgar Degas. We discovered that he enjoyed making artwork of ballerinas. He created artwork that captured moments of everyday life. We created our own ballerinas with 3-D tutus.

This week we quickly looked at an artist duo called kudu-lah that makes cool creatures in bottles. We used them as inspiration and created our own imaginary creatures in bottles.

This week we looked at the book Flashlight by Lizi Boyd. We talked about what an illustration is and created our own nighttime illustrations. We looked at different kinds of nocturnal animals to draw in our artwork.

This week we talked about landscapes and perspective. We discussed how in perspective things that get further away from us look smaller. We created our own 3-D city landscapes where the buildings became smaller as they got further away.

This week we talked about Texture again which is one of the Elements of Art. We each drew our own unique castles using lines and shapes, then we found different textures around us and added those to our castle by crayon rubbing.

This week we learned about Printmaking. We talked about symmetry and created a symmetrical snowflake on a blank paper. Then we learned how to create a foil print by coloring on a piece of foil and transferring it to our snowflake paper.

This week we learned about Texture which is one of the Elements of Art. We collected leaves and then learned how to create a leaf rubbing by holding our crayon on its side and revealing the leaf texture.

This week we learned about Value which is one of the Elements of Art. We discussed how to create different values by pressing light or hard with our supplies or a special technique with water and markers. We then created different values in a pumpkin to make it look more realistic and decorated the background with festive patterns.

This week we learned about Color which is one of the Elements of Art. We discussed Complementary colors. We then used these colors and created an artwork of a fruit and color it and the background with Complementary colors.

This week we learned about Color and Value which are some of the Elements of Art. We talked about Primary colors and how to mix them into Secondary colors. We created values in our beakers by pressing light or hard with our supplies like we practiced last week. We combined these ideas together to create an awesome color mixing science experiment that "exploded" into secondary colors!

This week we started learning about Color which is one of the Elements of Art. We went on a scavenger hunt to find different colors around our home and arranged them artistically for a cool picture.
