Warehouse Location: 255 Foothills Rd Lake Oswego, OR 97034
How do I get to practice?
Personal Vehicle, Bus 35 from campus, or Carpool. We have moved our practice time 35 minutes later than last year to accommodate for folks who will need to take the bus to practice.
Will there be carpooling?
Currently we do not have drivers available from campus. If a carpooler lives in another area of Portland (SE, NE, NW), other pickup spots may be coordinated once the season roster is finalized. Until then, assume that you will be responsible for getting to practice on time. Practice is now later to accomodate bus schedules.
What is the cost?
Winter term cost will depend on if you attend PSU or PCC. PSU students have subsidized dues by the school (for those eligible) of $98 and all other rowers have a due of $245.
Your dues include 3+ practices a week, coaching, access to equipment, open row opportunities up to 6x a week, training camps, and any regattas for the season.
What if I can't afford the dues?
Discuss options with Program Director and LOCR staff
Possible sponsorships or due scholarships will be limited to those who have the greatest need and are fully committed to the team. Aid is not guaranteed, and will be on a case-by-case basis.
What are our team values?
Sportsmanship
Work hard and show up for your teammates consistently at practice & competitions
Respect your teammates, leadership, coaches, and LOCR community
Attitude
Positive and uplifting of yourself and your teammates
Team player
Open to growing and learning new skills
Admitting to personal mistakes
I identify as non-binary, is there a place for me to row?
All are welcome! Please don't let gendered categories prevent you from participating in this sport. For collegiate regattas, U.S. Rowing requires rowers to choose either "male" or "female" for competition purposes. You may choose a category that best fits your erg (rowing machine) times and your level of fitness compared to your teammates.
More recently, U.S. Rowing has started offering a non-binary category for some of their open races. If you wish to be involved in making rowing a more inclusive space, reach out to our coaching staff or to U.S. Rowing directly to share your thoughts. You are always welcome to share your concerns with us if you do not feel comfortable or supported. Our purpose is to create lifelong rowers!
Is Portland Collegiate Rowing non-profit?
Portland Collegiate Rowing is a program of Lake Oswego Community Rowing (LOCR). We are a non-profit organization, which means your dues are going directly to your personal cost of practice, training camps, and regattas.
What if I can't come to all the practices?
Rowing is a team sport and your teammates depend on your attendance! You must be able to make the minimum required practices, which is 3x a week on T, Th, and Sun mornings. Attending practice is non-negotiable.
*For Varsity rowers, you must attend the 3 required practices a week plus at least 2 more. Varsity eligibility is based on previous experience and commitment.
If you need to miss a practice here and there during the term, you are allowed up to 4 excused absences for valid reasons that are cleared with the coach ahead of time. If you have more specific questions about attendance, reach out to our Program Director Shawn Chang.
If you have 2+ unexcused absences in a term i.e. you slept in or didn't show up, you may lose eligibility for a seat in a race and financial support in future terms. If your attendance is very poor, you may not be invited back to row with us in future terms. If you are a PSU student and you have more than 2 unexcused absences in a term, you will be responsible for paying back PSU per additional practice that you miss. PSU helps with your dues under the assumption that you are engaging fully in the club, and their funding is limited and distributed among members.
