I. SAFETY
A. On the playground students must be visible at all times and not more than 20 seconds away from the supervising Extended Day Care personnel.
B. Children must get permission to leave the classroom, playground, or move to an activity in another area.
II. SCHOOL EMERGENCIES
If an emergency occurs at the school, these procedures will be followed:
A. Fire, power outages, and other natural disasters:
Extended Day Care will follow the school’s emergency plan. Please refer to your school handbook regarding this procedure.
B. Snow days and/or severe inclement weather days:
We will remain open whenever possible. If the school closes prior to, during or after the normal school day (due to inclement weather or school site emergency), the Extended Day Care Program will also close.
Parents and/or emergency contacts will be contacted, in this event, by the site instructor and/or the Extended Day Care office to pick up child(ren).
NOTICE: If a school closes before Placer Elementary School After School Care Program opens, children do not go to the Placer Elementary Extended Day Care Program. Parents should monitor the television and radio for school closure announcements or call (916) 652-1830, during inclement weather.
II. ACCIDENT/INJURY
A. EMERGENCY ACCIDENTS
1. If there is a serious injury, Placer Elementary School Extended Day Care Program will call 911 for medical assistance, immediately.
2. If a child falls and cannot get up on his/her own, he/she will not be moved. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE WILL BE CALLED, IMMEDIATELY.
3. Parents will be notified. If parents are unavailable, the emergency contacts will be notified.
4. School and Extended Day offices will be notified and the required accident forms will be completed and kept on file at the site with a copy sent to the Placer Elementary School office within 48 hours.
B. NON-EMERGENCY ACCIDENTS
If a child appears to be sick and/or complains of injury:
1. Instructor will provide a quiet area for the child and observe.
2. Parent(s) of child(ren) will be contacted, if condition worsens.
3. Situation will be noted on the staff communication log; i.e. Nurse’s log.
