For New Teachers

Roles and Responsibilities of the Beginning and New Teacher :

• • participate in the Longmeadow Public Schools Orientation Program

  • be receptive to daily informal support from mentors

  • meet weekly with mentor teacher / keep an informal log of weekly meetings

  • accept constructive feedback and to practice reflective teaching

  • develop and accomplish three specific professional goals (two student and one professional (TeachPoint)

  • meet and conference monthly with other new teachers

  • be willing to share and try new ideas

  • be an active listener

  • participate in at least 8 hours of classroom observations during the first year and record reflections in a journal (submit a log of hours to mentor coordinator)
