Teacher Feature

Danielle Buono

Danielle Buono has been teaching for 11 years, and has experience in preschool as well as early elementary. This year, at the GLC school she has been given the unique challenge of a First Grade ESL class. Eighteen of Ms. Buono’s twenty-two students are language learners. Most speak Portuguese at home and are at various stages of language acquisition. While this scenario presents certain challenges, Ms. Buono goes above and beyond to make sure that all of her students are successful, no matter what their background. She can often be heard using Spanish or Italian to get a point across. She regularly uses data to see where her students need improvement and adjusts her lessons to meet those needs. She identifies each student’s learning style and uses it to make the most of every minute. Ms. Buono says, “I have definitely become more flexible this year and am better at thinking outside the box. Seeing their progress is so rewarding.” Her students are definitely benefiting from her willingness to meet them where they are.

Nicole Carroll

The Long Branch Middle School Bilingual/ESL Department would like to feature Mrs. Nicole Carroll as our outstanding Teacher of the Month. Mrs. Carroll is not only a vital part of the Bilingual/ESL Department, but she also serves as the Head Teacher for the Mathematics Department. Her expertise in her field of study helps to support our ESL students in a critical subject area. In addition, Mrs. Carroll uses our new mathematics resource, Big Ideas Math, in meeting the requirements of both our 7th and 8th grade students. She has also been instrumental in preparing the new curriculum currently being used at the middle school. We are extremely fortunate to have her aboard, and wish her and her family all our love and best wishes as they await the birth of their second child in April!

Wallace Morales

Mr. Wallace Morales is our Teacher of the Month! He is currently working at the JMF School in the morning and at the AAA School in the afternoon as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. Mr. Morales has been in the district for about 40 years and enjoys teaching ESL because he loves to see his student’s successful growth in the English language. One of his favorite mottos is “When you’re green you grow! When you’re ripe you rot.” Also, Mr. Morales’ favorite hobby is playing the guitar because he enjoys sharing his love for music. He recently accompanied the kindergarten students on guitar during the Holiday Sing Along that took place before the holiday at the JMF School.

Denise Rosa-Rivera

The World Language Department would like to feature Mrs. Denise Rosa-Rivera this month. Mrs. Rosa-Rivera is a safe school personnel member in the Long Branch High School. Mrs. Rosa-Rivera has been an employee for Long Branch Public Schools for 19 years. In addition to ensuring the daily safety of our students, Mrs. Rosa-Rivera serves as a translator when needed as well as a trusted mentor to the students. Mrs. Rosa-Rivera is an asset to the High School and we are so fortunate to have her as an advocate for our Spanish Speaking students.
