A 7 period academic year allows for students to take one additonal class. There were several parameters that we had to consider when creating a schedule:
1) 8:20 am start and 3:20 pm end due to bus schedules
2) We must have 2 lunches
3) The only early release day for staff collaboration could be Wednesday.
4) We were told to keep finals days at the end of each semester
5) Must meet state minimum annual instructional minutes
The Block/Flex Committee presented a 7 Period A/B Block MOU at a staff meeting on February 21, 2024. Voting took place from 2/21-2/26 and 66% of staff voted in favor of the MOU. Unfortunately, based on LEA MOU bylaws a MOU requires 80%. Above is the slide show presented to staff on February 21st.
Of those who voted "no" the chart on the right reflects a desire of staff to know more about: A-G courses and impact on student schedules, the structure and function of Ignite, and the MOU Block renewal. There were also specific requests from both "yes' and "no" voters for professional development and teaching block.
We are currently looking in to Block Schedule professional development for this year and next. The pdf to your left describes one option that we are looking in to.
