The sample lesson activities were collected from VIP teachers in the district. The activities are examples of the LISD VIP Tenets.

Classroom Community

Attitude of Gratitude Flipgrid

Integrating Mindset Monday activities using Flipgrid to show Attitude of Gratitude.

Family Engagement

Students connect with their families via DoJo/Seesaw/Google Classroom once a day to share a process they just completed, share an accomplishment, explain new information in their own words, publish their completed work and reflect on the process.

Fun Class Meeting

Class meetings are fun ways to get students up and moving and asking questions on topics. Write the question on the plane! Same color planes get in a group and answer the questions people wrote. Questions can be anything, use in a class morning meeting with your students! See it in action with our adult learners!

Students use Google Sheets to track math and reading growth every month.

Formative Assessment

Every Friday this class does a Kahoot sight word game. You can make your own or use one already made. In this game, students need to identify x sight word. At the end of each game teacher can download results so students can reflect on their learning. Teacher can send home a list of words that need to be practiced. It helps students and teacher monitor student learning.

Using GSuite

The Google suite allows teachers to give feedback quickly to students while allowing the student to go back and adjust assignments based upon the feedback. Students are able to set their own goals and monitor their progress in real time since assignments and data are stored in their Drive.

Innovation and Leveraging Technology

Creating New Animals

2nd graders create new animals with choice adaptations and draw their creature on Google Slides, inserting a background to show the animal's environment. Students write about how their animals' adaptations help them survive in their environment. Students present their adaption as a slide show to class. Ss use comment feature to respond/ask questions about new animal creations.

Students use Padlet

A Padlet is created for 2nd graders to share out their written word problems. By creating it at the district level, with the teacher incorporating it into the TEKS Clarification document, there is a strong expectation of collaboration. Students can answer each others problems, look for grammar corrections that need to be made, etc. and it's FUN, it's collaborative, and it's critical thinking.

Designing an Animal Shelter

Students practicing with a Quizizz reviewing angles. Students are using the shape tools in Google Slides to build an animal shelter and then using Screencastify to point out the different types of angles.

Compare & Contrast

Saltwater ecosystem Nearpod! The students loved exploring sea life! This class uses Nearpod to explore freshwater and seawater ecosystems and then use Flipgrid to compare and contrast. Students comment on each others work and share their work via Twitter for an audience. Listen to the pupils' excitement.

Google Drawings

Students collaborate using Google drawings to deconstruct allegorical children's books. They had some great conversations!

Augmented Reality Tools

Students use different augmented reality tools, VR and virtual simulations to provide a deeper understanding of the TEK. A district teacher uses Nearpod tools with models in Science and Math about the food chain, digging for fossils, etc. to virtually exploration TEKS.

Coding with Ozobots

Students use Ozobots to complete coding tasks. After the coding is completed students use Flipgrid or Padlet or Seesaw to video themselves or their group describing the process and then comment on each others. We stress commenting specifically following the Recognize and Reinforce Fundamental 5 model of commenting.

Creating a "What We Know" Wall

Students use Padlet to extend a lesson. Task is to find anything that would help a person understand that you understand the information given. - make video, write, pictures, articles, find made video. In the end students create a ¨what we know wall¨. To move up the SAMR and 4Cs students will comment specifically on each others posts and then the link to the Padlet will be shared out to a wider audience.

Fundamental Five and District Curriculum

Practicing for the Power Zone with Apple TV

Apple TV (or other reflection devices or apps) and iPads allow for you to be in the Power Zone without being limited by cords, etc. You can monitor students work on various apps from your ipad such as GoogleClass Room, Nearpod or Quizizz. This allows you Recognize and Reinforce in the moment.

Framing the Lesson with NearPod

In Nearpod I am able to intentionally include an I will... We will... framing the lesson slide, FSGPT slide, and a close task.

Student Engagement

Access to devices makes differentiating work easier and more accessible to teachers. Therefore students are able to spend more time engaged in the curriculum to meet their individual needs; this could be above or below grade level work. This allows for time to 'fill in gaps' of students learning; thus students are working towards meeting district and state expectations.

Flexible Learning Paths and Competency Driven

Flexible Paths with Seesaw

Seesaw has a bank of activities -Teacher states she can assign 2-3 and have them choose 1 they prefer. From time to time she moves this activity up the SAMR model and 4Cs having students comment on others work. Sometimes work is shared out after getting parent permission. The Seesaw community of families comment on all pupil's work. This allows for an authentic audience.

Students Use Links for Self Learning

Nearpod or Google Slides (and other programs) allows pages with more than one link so students can choose which brain break/review concept they will choose from.

Differentiating for Student Needs

Differentiation on Nearpod or Google Slides is so simple you put 2-4 links on 1 page and direct groups by color or icon or whatever mode you like - such as airplanes click on the top link, motorcycles click on the middle link, pick-ups click on the bottom link etc.

Formative Assessment with Seesaw

Students recording or taking pictures of center work using Seesaw allows teachers to monitor their work for quality, misconceptions and understanding. Using Seesaw while students are completing center work, teachers are meeting with small groups to assess through running records, checkpoints, small groups notes, etc.

Creating Talking Birds to Demonstrate Understanding

Students created paper birds and used Chatterpix to describe all their characteristics and habits.

Student Choice

With the growing amount of research and writing TEKS and the LARGE amount of guided math and reading time we have in our blocks . . . choice boards that review TEKS through EdPuzzle, Nearpod self paced lessons, and Google classroom assignemnts are a must. . . . Students drive their TEKS based center time with products of their choice.
