Protocols and Expectations

Attendance

Student-athletes are encouraged to attend pre-season sessions and expected to attend all early-season and subsequent seasonal training/practice sessions; those who have qualified for the post-season are expected to attend all post-season sessions as well. [NOTES: A.) Incoming 9th graders and anyone new to LMHS may join the team during the first eight days of class. B.) Fall sport transfers may join the team during the first ten calendar days of pre-season at the discretion of the coaching staff: attendance records and conference with transfer-out sport coach may be considered.]

Student-athletes are expected to attend (with weather appropriate gear) in a timely manner, all training and competitions for which they are scheduled.

If arriving late to training please arrive with an appropriate note; otherwise the tardiness will be unexcused.

Student athletes must physically participate in all practices and competitions unless directed otherwise by a coach/trainer or a note from a doctor or guardian.

Attendance (tardiness and absence) is a factor in determining team squads and eligibility for competitions.

Absences and tardiness may result in suspension from competitions and may forfeit eligibility to participate.

At the discretion of the coaches, unexcused session absences or tardiness may result in dismissal from the team.

Communication

If there is a situation that can impact the team and/or coaches' decisions and responsibilities, it is expected that student-athletes's will take the initiative to advocate for themselves by communicating with coaches.

If there is an unexpected absence by a member of the team a parent/guardian can expect a coach to follow-up with them.

Student-athlete: name, image, and likeness will be published and communicated through media platforms to share team and/or individual activities, status, and progress.

Team Squads/Organization

The team can be organized into squads: Black, White, Grey, and Maroon.

Squad assignment is at the discretion of the coaching staff and is generally based in how a member of the team: contributes to team culture; lives team norms; expresses decisions based on team mission, vision, values, and goals; adheres to team policies; as well as time/speed performance. To be clear, if someone is the fastest or is among the fastest (time/speed performance), they may be on any of the squads.

Expectations

All student-athletes with a completed physical automatically make the team.

Student-athletes are to stay in the training/practice area(s); do not leave the indicated areas without a coach's permission.

Mobile and media devices are prohibited during as warm-up areas at meets.

Any injuries should be reported immediately to a coach.

All team members will be at pre/post meet huddles and perform a proper warm-up/cool-down with the team.

Meet rostering decisions are based on several factors and at the discretion of the coaching staff: personal bests, entry limits, teamwork, sportsmanship, progressive improvement, etc.

In order to compete in 5K races, all runners must be able to run a 17:00 for 2 miles on the track/trail or a 26:00 for the RTP (Rose Tree Park) 5K scrimmage. If any student-athlete is not able to make either time, it is at the coach’s discretion whether they will compete in a race.
