The LJSD Parent Café is a welcoming and collaborative space designed to support families during the most important early years of a child’s life—from newborn to age five. We believe that a child’s health, well-being, and readiness for school begin early, and as your child’s first and most important teacher, your knowledge, experiences, and actions play a vital role in shaping their success.
Through monthly online and in-person gatherings, families come together to share ideas, discuss needs and concerns, and help enhance programs and resources that support children’s growth and learning. The Parent Café provides opportunities for parent education, adult learning, and connection with other families, while fostering a strong partnership between parents, programs, and the wider community. Together, we are building a supportive family network that empowers parents and ensures every child is prepared to thrive in school and beyond.
School Readiness
School readiness is foundational across early childhood systems and programs. It means children are ready for school, families are ready to support their children's learning, and schools are ready for children. We view school readiness as children possessing the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for success in school and for later learning and life. Physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development are all essential ingredients of school readiness. Managers, teaching staff, caregivers, family advocates, and families can learn more about creating enriching and supportive learning environments for young children ages birth to 5 years old.
