The Texas Application for State Federal Aid (TASFA) is for students who are ineligible for federal aid through FAFSA. Students under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, who are foreign nationals, and/or non-U.S. citizens apply for TASFA.

State funds are available to non-U.S. citizens/students who qualify as Texas Residents. College institutions do not share citizenship status information with other government agencies.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does not share citizenship status information with other government agencies.
Parents and students must file taxes in order to be eligible for state financial aid.
For the 2021-2022 academic year, you will need the tax information from the income you received in 2020.

Step 2: Gather & Complete Document Forms

Parents

W2's or W7's Tax Forms
Tax Return (IRS 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ)
Parent Tax Transcript from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
Verification Worksheet provided by the college (contact college if you cannot find the worksheet online)
Month/Date/Year parents married, divorced, and/or separated
Living Expenses (only for those who provided a non-tax filer form)

Students

W2's or W7's Tax Forms (if employed)
Tax Return (if employed)
Complete the Selective Service Form (males only). Mail in form to the Selective Service System.
Complete a TASFA Application for every college you apply for
A Notarized Affidavit of intent to become a Permanent Resident
Some colleges require additional documentation (a worksheet) if student did not file taxes
If you earned under $12,200, you are not required to file taxes

Step 3: Verification Worksheets For Each College

College and universities require TASFA students to complete a Verification Worksheet. It is an additional supplement document with the TASFA. Each college creates their own Verification Worksheet, so visit each college's financial webpage to find and complete them. Look under Financial Aid Forms. The Dream U.S. Scholarship (Click Here)

The Dream U.S. Scholarship covers tuition and fees up to a maximum of $16,500 for an Associate degree and $33,000 for a Bachelor’s degree at a Dream U.S. Partner College. Some students may be eligible for an additional stipend of up to $4,000 (or $1,000 per year) for books, supplies, and transportation. The award is renewable each year – students simply have to meet the continuing eligibility criteria.
