Students will understand the purpose of research (to find information you don’t know).
Students will be required in mini-research projects and assignments to use multiple resources (book, database, website, journal, magazine, primary document).
Students will be able to analyze website sources for reliability and reputability
Students will be comfortable with creating a citation in NoodleTools for all types of sources (database, website, magazine, etc) and compiling these citations in a Works Cited page (MLA style).
Students will continue practicing extracting relevant information from the sources and putting this information onto note cards in NoodleTools.
Students will be able to write a thesis statement that makes a claim and requires critical thinking.
Students will create a thesis within a specific topic which is directed by the teacher, students will not find their own topics.
Students will practice creating a thesis based off of evidence found in research through several mini-research assignments in Social Studies.
Students will accurately support their claim with textual evidence from their research.
Students will begin to recognize counterclaims and understand the purpose of a counterclaim to strengthen an argument.
