Glencoe Math is an approach to teaching mathematics developed as a write-in student edition, that allow each child to interact with their text in multiple ways throughout the learning process. Written specifically to address the standards of the Common Core State Standards, Glencoe Math offers personalized vocabulary, student-created examples, and online games that help students move from learning abstract concepts to direct application.

Built Around the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)

• Organized around Essential Questions for focused content

• Sequenced instruction to ensure student success

• Written to explicitly address the new CCSS

Focus on the Standards of Mathematical Practice

• Multiple experiences to build conceptual understanding

• Modeling, reasoning, and productive disposition activities

• Real-world problem-solving examples required for success

Problem Solving: Follows a consistent learning model across the grade levels (My Math K-5) to ensure student understanding and success.

1. Learn the Strategy—Teach the 4 steps?of problem solving (Understand/ Plan/ Solve/ Check)

2. Practice the Strategy—Give opportunities to work through thinking process

3. Apply the Strategy—Help students recognize how and when to use strategies

4. Review the Strategies—Develop fluency and expertise through practice of learned strategies

Components of Glencoe Math Grade 6

Inquiry Labs: Promotes collaboration and critical thinking.

Communicating Mathematically: Eases problem solving by helping students verbalize thinking and articulate strategies.

Math Foldables®: Entices students with interactive, 3-dimensional graphic organizers.

Vocabulary: Builds verbal skills as well as computational skills.

Independent Practice: Offers built-in homework, as well as extra practice to reinforce concepts.

Real-World Application: Allows students to understand the everyday relevance of math and highlights the skills to ensure success.

Test Practice: Provides frequent test practice in the form of multiple choice and open response questions that mimic state assessment items.

Are You Ready?: Assesses the skills students need before starting a chapter.
