What is School-Based Clinical Counseling?
The Littleton School District has a vision for “every student [to be] immersed in relevant, engaging, and meaningful learning experiences.” We recognize that there are times when students may need additional support to achieve this vision. That is where counseling services can sometimes come in! The focus of counseling services is to help students better understand themselves – their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors – and how these may impact their school day. There is no cost for clinical counseling services at school.
Written parent/guardian consent is required for counseling services when individual counseling extends beyond two sessions in a school year or when counseling is planned on a regular basis. Services may include individual counseling, crisis intervention, group counseling, and referrals to services in the community as needed.

As parents/guardians, it can be tough to navigate the constant changes of adolescence. What is typical teenage development? When should you be concerned? Counseling staff want to be partners with you during this complex and amazing time. Please do not hesitate to call, email, or set up an appointment.
A Word on Confidentiality
Your student’s and family’s confidentiality is of the utmost importance to the staff at Littleton School District. In order to build trust with you and your student, the counselor will keep information shared in counseling sessions confidential with some exceptions. First, it is important to note that a team of staff at school supports your student throughout their day. In order for each team member to best support your student, it is possible that some information may be shared with other team members (such as administration, classroom teachers, or the nurse). Please know that information sharing is limited to the minimum required in order to support your student effectively. If you have questions about this or your specific situation, please ask. Other exceptions to confidentiality include circumstances where there is a legal obligation to disclose:
The student is a danger to him/her/themselves or others
Concerns regarding child abuse or neglect
A written court order requiring disclosure of information. In some instances, a written court order may not be sufficient to compel disclosure of information.
