Focus
The projects on this topic focused on those things that could students felt could be improved with regard to the sporting activities that are offered in our town. Students brainstormed some improvements that they thought could help their school community and then directed initial questions while researching their topics to Mrs. Laido and Mrs. Lauro. They were both then able to come to our school to hear the student presentations in-person. Below are the student presentations and what has already been accomplished due to their initiative.
This team presented why Challenger Field needed to be updated and presented possible solutions along with cost estimates for making the improvements.
Team Members: James D. and Logan
This team recognized that to make the updates needed to Challenger Field, they were going to need money. They wanted to have a car wash and sell wristbands in Little Silver to help save up money. Mayor Neff was told about the car wash idea during another presentation and he contacted the President of the Fire Company and both he and the Fire Chief were receptive to the idea of the car wash taking place in the firehouse parking lot.
Team Members: Andrew, Bo, Luke L. and Mikey
This team proposed getting new baseball equipment for the teams in Little Silver. They felt the gear provided to the teams was old and not as safe anymore. In addition, they felt that for those players that could not afford to bring their own gear, it would be good for them to have something nice.

This group wanted to ensure that basketball size and height of hoops was consistent with recommendations for various age groups.
Team Members: Michael and Robert
This group of girls proposed changes to who could play in the different leagues. They felt that there should be the opportunity for girls to play on boys teams.
Team Members: Caitlin, Neve and Ryan W.
This group of girls proposed changes to ensure that boys and girls had equal opportunities to play against equal skilled players in soccer.
