The editing process involved lots of steps: discussions, voting, different opinions and more discussions. We used the "majority rules" method for some of these choices. Everyone had a voice and all ideas were listened to, right down to the layout and placement of words! We trusted Lisa's and Tina's professional opinions too.
The editing process included refining the drawing and page formatting. Another big aspect was changing the colours of the drawings and backgrounds. We did most of this colour editing using InDesign and Photoshop. We dragged images (including photos of real computer parts) into the picture to create a layered collage effect.
Edits on the final proof went back to Tina for changes. Reading every part to make sure spelling and grammar was correct was very important. We used this time to change the format of fonts and positions of images to make sure the book was great!
Changed "no one" to "nobody" - easier for little people to read.
Took out "he" and used "Euko" - to make it gender neutral.
Checked capital letters were used in the right places.
We voted on the fonts, trying to find one that was clear and easy to read. We used sample text to show how it could look.
This PDF shows the final version before going to the printers!
Originally the front cover didn't have the creators names!
One of the big editing changes we made was the title of the book. It started out as "Euko finds a friend"! In the story we had named him Professor Euko and we decided it was important to add this in to the title. The great adventure part of the title made it sound more exciting. Ultimately we all voted, and agreed, on the final title.
