Conversations regarding course of study should be ongoing starting in Middle School BUT course of study Decisions should not be made without a minimum of 4 semesters worth of final grades at the high school level.
Course of Study decisions should be an IEP team decision. Careful thought and open discussion should be put into this process. Circumstances which should be considered include: academic performance, history of accommodations provided with fidelity, post-secondary goals (future employment, future education, and independent living skills), communication skills, and cognitive functioning.
Note: Course of Study Decisions can be changed anytime prior to graduation.
Personal Curriculum (PC)
Personal Curriculums (PC) are a tool for modifying the rigor of the Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC). This tool allows for individualizing the state graduation requirements to support student achievement toward earning a high school diploma.
