Two people were arrested after shots were fired at a party close to Lindsey Wilson College in the early morning hours of August 26.
Adair County dispatch received a call shortly after 1 am with reports of conflict at a nearby gathering off campus. Columbia Police Department responded to Tutt Street where they found 36 year-old James Haywood in the backyard. Haywood was discovered after officers heard a gunshot from the residence.
During the altercation with Haywood, a second man proceeded to enter an officer’s vehicle, where he then fled the scene. Police say Diorian Johnson, 20, drove nearly a mile before wrecking the cruiser into a utility pole on Bomar Heights, where he then fled on foot.
Additional officers responded to the scene in an attempt to locate Johnson, as well as secure the residence where Haywood was later arrested.
Later into the morning, officers located Johnson in Heartland Circle after he had fled the scene of the crash on foot. He was later taken into custody shortly before 4 am.
Haywood and Johnson were placed in Adair County jail, with the latter facing numerous charges, including theft by unlawful taking of an automobile over ten thousand dollars and theft of a firearm, as well as wanton endangerment (first degree).
