Bonner will be hosting a week-long diversity initiative starting February 19th, 2018, called Diversity Week, created by Bonner Congress Representatives Autumn Bishop, Kaitlyn Jackson, and Christy Antle, all Juniors.
This will be a week filled with events including discussion panels, film showings, workshops, and giveaways. For example, “The BSU [Black Student Union] is setting up a discussion panel and Jared Odd will be doing a presentation on ‘Viewpoint Diversity,’” said Bishop. Not all events have been planned but all are welcome to be added to the itinerary, “We are looking to have many workshop presenters as well as panels.” said Jackson. *
Every person can enjoy Diversity Week, “Anyone who wants to come is welcome,” said Antle. “It’s a campus wide event so faculty, staff, students and community members are encouraged to come.”
Diversity Week is about giving the people of Lindsey Wilson a voice and connecting new friends, “The students and community members can celebrate the diversity that is on campus,” said Antle. “[Autumn, Kaitlyn and myself] came up with this idea to encourage and embrace the diversity on our campus. Diversity isn’t talked about that much on campus, so we thought this would give an outlet for that to change.”
Lindsey Wilson College is having a week showcasing diversity and individuality, “It’s very important as a college campus to encourage and recognize diversity,” said Antle “especially because the one thing people look at while touring a college is the different statistics. But, we don’t talk about the uniqueness and the differences that our campus has because of that diversity. I think it’s important to showcase that to remind people that Lindsey Wilson is more than just those numbers.”
