Our beloved pets are truly part of the family, many couples even consider them their first kids aka their special fur babies.
So if your wedding venue allows it, of course you’d want them there to celebrate your big day! Whether one partner had a dog before the relationship or you both welcomed a new pet together, having your pup present (or even involved!) creates a warm, joyful, and personalized atmosphere on your wedding day.
Incorporating pets into weddings has become a popular trend for modern couples who want to make their celebration feel authentic and meaningful. Dogs, especially, bring an undeniable charm and sense of comfort. Their presence can ease wedding-day jitters, spark genuine laughter, and help create unforgettable moments that feel organic and heartfelt. From walking down the aisle to being part of your wedding photos, pets add a unique and personalized touch that reflects your love story and future together.
You can have them present during the whole wedding or partial. My couples mostly have their pups present during the Ceremony and cocktail hour for pictures, after the photos are done, they have a trusted individual take them home or to a designated location where the pup is comfortable.
If you're considering a pet-friendly wedding, planning ahead is essential. Confirm your venue’s pet policy early, coordinate a trusted pet handler, and be sure to prioritize your pet’s safety and comfort. A little preparation goes a long way in ensuring your four-legged friend enjoys the celebration just as much as you do.
Your wedding photographer will love capturing those candid moments: a sweet nose nudge, a playful ear perk, or a perfectly timed tail wag. These images often become some of the most cherished photos from the entire day and are a beautiful way to highlight your bond.
With thoughtful planning, your pet can be included in your ceremony or reception in a way that feels relaxed, joyful, and uniquely you.
Confirm pet-friendly wedding venues early to avoid surprises, the last thing you want is to book a venue and they don't allow your fur babies.
Hire or designate a pet handler so you can stay present and stress-free. I have some past vendors in my back pocket if you don't have one in mind already.
Pack a pet essentials kit with water, treats, waste bags, a leash, and a favorite toy.
Schedule break so your pet can rest, hydrate, and escape the excitement if needed.
Let your photographer know ahead of time so they can plan for pet-friendly photo moments. Coming up with some inspo photos will help your photographer get a feel for the type of photos you would love.
Consider your pet’s personality—not all animals thrive in large crowds or loud environments. Consider maybe only having them for photos if your pet doesn't do well with crowds and noise
Dress them safely and comfortably, whether that’s a floral collar, bow tie, or bandana. If part of the wedding is outside, don't forget to pack a sweater for your pet!
Plan a backup exit in case your pet becomes overwhelmed during the ceremony.
Have a clear handoff plan for when your pet’s part in the celebration is done. So include who is taking responsibility before, during and after. Also consider where they are going after the festivities.
