1) Meet with your advisor to discuss the courses you are interested in taking.
2) Research which institutions offer online dual credit courses. The following are those most used by LCS students: Ball State University, Taylor University, Purdue University, Ivy Tech College.
3) Send an email to your advisor with the course name(s) and number(s) you would like to take. The course must meet certain criteria in order for it to be approved.
4) In most cases, the institution will require an LCS representative (your advisor) to send transcripts, approve the request and often sign forms before the course can be scheduled. For most students, a parent approval form is also needed. Be aware, you may be required to submit a transcript on your own. If this is the case, please make your request through Parchment.
5) Signing up for dual credit/dual enrollment with a post-secondary institution means that you are considered to be a college student while taking their courses. You are responsible to meet all of the expectations laid out in the course syllabi. You are also responsible for all expenses accrued for the purpose of taking an online dual credit course. (No billing/charges/payments will occur through LCS FACTS)
6) Submit an Independent Study Proposal Form *available outside the Main Office* with attached supporting documentation to the Guidance Office BEFORE starting the course. If your schedule permits, you will be assigned an Independent Study block to work on your course while at school. You will be assigned to a mentor teacher whose classroom will be your assigned place to work.
Use this form, also available outside the Main Office to make add and drop requests. Students have 1 week to submit their forms. This is usually the 2nd Monday after school begins. Changes, if possible, will be made the following week. Pay attention to deadline announcements each semester. Changes to schedules will be communicated via email and will show up on your Student Portal schedule.
