Music Appreciation

The goal of any course in any music appreciation and history class is to increase the student’s understanding and appreciation of all forms of music. In this class, students will discover the function of music throughout history, develop critical listening skills by demonstrating knowledge of elements of music and the families of the instruments of the orchestra and students will have an appreciation (even love for) new music and different music that they want to continue listening to and learning about. Woven through all of these goals will be the premise that music is a gift from God. As an image-bearer of God, who was a musician himself, we have responsibilities to be involved in music. For the Christian, music is an avenue for worshiping God, edification of others, evangelism and for personal enjoyment. As listeners and consumers of music, students will develop knowledge and application of these four areas of musical as evidenced in the history of music.

Music Appreciation can be taken as a dual credit class if all requirements are met.
