BAND

Psalm 33:3 instructs musicians to "Play skillfully and show for joy..." That is the overarching goal of the band program and Liberty. When students have the foundational skills to play skillfully, band is fun and students are able honor God with their abilities, bless others, use their gifts to minister and evangelize to those who they have the opportunity to perform for.

Music affects many areas of our lives. It allows us a channel of communication, often reaching depths where words alone may fall short. (Psalm 40:3) Music is a part of every culture and every person is created with the ability to do music. The Bible presents four uses of music: exaltation (worship), evangelism, edification of fellow believers, and personal enjoyment. Music is essential for the well-rounded development of children. To learn music, a child must experience music through singing, playing, listening, and moving. To understand how music is a part of our culture, students must begin to understand the history of music and appreciate what has come before us. The music department of Liberty Christian School seeks to help students to develop each student’s abilities his or her fullest potential and provide the skills and knowledge to be involved in music throughout his or her lives.

ELEMENTARY

HIGH SCHOOL

Students may begin band in the 5th or 6th grade. Students meet twice a week for group instruction and a week for instrument specific instruction in a small lesson group setting. Elementary band students perform at elementary chapels, Christmas and spring concerts. Performing with the pep band for Elementary Night at a basketball game is also a highlight!

Middle School band meets everyday and builds on the skills learned in previous years of band. The Middle school band performs in four concerts each year: fall, Christmas, winter and spring.

MIddle school students may also apply to participate in the Indiana Bandmasters Association Honors Band, Madison County Honors Band, or participate in the ISSMA Solo and Ensmeble Contest.
