FAQ

• Do you offer private voice lessons?

We do not currently offer private voice lessons at SRMS. Every choir class is a voice lesson! 

• Is my child required to have a choir t-shirt?

Yes, every student in choir is required to have a choir t-shirt. Students are required to wear choir t-shirts any time we have a choir event on or off campus. This is for identification of choir students and a unified look on the risers during informal performances. Please see the "Choir T-Shirts" tab for more information. 

• What is the formal concert uniform for choir?

Formal uniforms are for 7th/8th grade only and are listed below:

• 7th/8th Grade Girls: black dress*, black flats 

• 7th/8th Grade Boys: black dress shirt*, black dress pants*, purple tie*, black dress socks, black dress shoes 

*Anything with this star means this uniform piece is provided by the choir department.

• Are concerts required?

Yes. All choir concerts and performances are mandatory and taken as a major grade. Choir performances are part of the choir TEKS for middle school and the school curriculum from the State of Texas. Any changes or additions in calendar dates will be emailed to parents and placed on the choir website. All schedule conflicts will be handled on an individual basis and ahead of the concert date. Only school-related conflicts will be excused. 

• What do I do if my child absolutely cannot make a concert?

Student illness and family emergencies will not be penalized (if you did not come to school, please do not come to the concert sick). If you have to miss a concert for any other reason, I need documentation in the form of an email from a parent or guardian with a valid reason of not being able to attend. This must be sent in advance of a performance, and acceptance of this reason is at the discretion of the director. Again, school related conflicts, family emergencies, and illness are the only reasons that concert attendance would be excused.

• When writing a check for choir, who do I make it out to? 

Make checks payable to "SRMS Choir".
