North: They had no supplies to make supplies to sell. Sense the civil war had begun the north and the south were no longer sharing goods they could sell anything. Sense they couldn't sell anything they wouldn't make money.
South: The south was the product source for the north and they would both split the money. Well now a feud was created and that was no longer happening. Therefore neither the north or the south was making money.
