He then had underestimated the north and their middle was stronger than lee thought, And that caused lee’s plan to fail. Another issue was that Robert E. Lee declined Abraham Lincoln's request. He didn't want to work for Lincoln sense that meant he would be working against his home state. It was a hard decision for him to make but he didn't accept the offer.
