The Grammys
By Tory Rote
2/24/2026
The Grammys are an annual award show hosted usually at the beginning of each year. This event celebrates (mainly pop) singers, songwriters, and producers. Let’s break down everything that happened at the 2026 Grammy Awards Ceremony!
First, let’s clear up some confusion between two similar awards, Record of the Year (ROTY) and Song of the Year (SOTY). Many can jumble these titles…what’s the difference? ROTY recognizes and rewards the producers and engineers for the production and performance of the song. SOTY recognizes and rewards the songwriters/composers for the structure and lyrics of the song.
Awards, Nominees, and Winners
Record of the Year went to Luther by Kendrick Lamar & SZA. Other nominees were DtMF by Bad Bunny, Manchild by Sabrina Carpenter, Wildflower by Billie Eilish, Anxiety by Doechii, Abracadabra by Lady Gaga, APT by Bruno Mars & Rosé, and The Subway by Chappell Roan.
Song of the Year went to Wildflower by Billie Eilish. Other nominees were DtMF by Bad Bunny, Manchild by Sabrina Carpenter, Luther by Kendrick Lamar & SZA, Anxiety by Doechii, Abracadabra by Lady Gaga, APT by Bruno Mars & Rosé, and Golden by Huntrix.
Best New Artist was an exciting one, with rising popstars such as Sombr, The Márias, Addison Rae, Alex Warren, Olivia Dean, Katseye, Leon Thomas, and Lola young all nominated for this award…and the award went to Olivia Dean!
Best Pop Solo Performance went to Messy by Lola Young. Other nominees were Daisies by Justin Beiber, Manchild by Sabrina Carpenter, The Subway by Chappell Roan, and Disease by Lady Gaga.
Best Pop Vocal Album went to Mayhem by Lady Gaga. Other nominees were Swag by Justin Beiber, Man’s Best Friend by Sabrina Carpenter, Something Beautiful by Miley Cyrus, and I’ve Tried Everything but Therapy (Part 2) by Teddy Swims.
Best Pop Dance Recording went to Abracadabra by Lady Gaga. Other nominees were Midnight Sun by Zara Larsson, Just Keep Watching by Tate Mcrae, Bluest Flame by Selena Gomez & Benny Blanco, and Illegal by PinkPantheress.
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance went to Defying Gravity by Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande. Other nominees were 30 for 30 by SZA & Kendrick Lamar, Golden by Huntrix, APT by Rosé & Bruno Mars, and Gabriela by Katseye.
And the most important, awaited award of the night…
The nominees for Album of the Year were Swag by Justin Beiber, Man’s Best Friend by Sabrina Carpenter, Chromakopia by Tyler, the Creator, Debí Tirar Más Fotos by Bad Bunny, GNX by Kendrick Lamar, Mayhem by Lady Gaga, Mutt by Leon Thomas, and Led God Sort Em Out by Clipse…and the award went to Debí Tirar Más Fotos by Bad Bunny!
This is a very important moment in music history because Debí Tirar Más Fotos is the first fully spanish-speaking album to win Album of the Year. What an inspiring achievement for the Latino community in times like these.
Notable Performances
Sabrina Carpenter soared on the grammy stage dressed as a flight attendant as she performed her song Manchild. Her ecstatic and amusing performance was joined by the audience singing along. She ended ther song holding a real pigeon in her hands which brought a touch of uniqueness to her performance.
Olivia Dean did not need multiple backup dancers or an intricate set to give a beautiful, vibrant performance. She stood on the grammy stage with a few musicians behind her and a microphone stand in front of her as she wore a classy, red dress. She sang her heart out to Man I Need. The energy she brings to the stage is like no other!
Sombr floated down onto the grammy stage on a platform tied to the ceiling. He performed Back to Friends and 12 to 12 in a dazzling blazer as he paraded off the stage and through the audience.
Significant Speeches
Bad Bunny: When receiving the award, Bad Bunny thanked his family and label. His emotions were felt all throughout the room. One important part of his speech that highlighted the need for compassion in America was when he said, “Before I give my thanks to God, I’m going to say ICE out. We’re not savages, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.”
Olivia Dean: She made her first grammy speech very admirable, “I’m up here as a granddaughter of an immigrant. I’m a product of bravery, and I think those people deserve to be celebrated.”
The art of music brings depth and inspiration to society. Culture, emotions, and deep messages are all intertwined between the melodies and lyrics of songs. Music is something to be celebrated because it connects us all. From pop to rock to classical, there's a genre for everybody!
ASTONISHING ARTISTS - EDITION II
The Scholars of Artistry.
By Emma Brown
3/4/2026
Welcome to Licking Heights’ official Artist Spotlight! Astonishing Artists aspires to recognize those talented artists hiding talent within Licking Heights. From drawing to pottery or another unique medium, we strive to acknowledge those with a passion. For many, art is an outlet. It is incredibly important to recognize a story behind art -- one that the artist has created to their desire, or something the admirer can appreciate within their own life. Art is not something definitive, but something imaginative.
Evangeleepha Rai is a junior at Licking Heights High School. She has been chosen for Astonishing Artists for her unique ability to capture every art form in a beautiful essence. She takes on multiple forms of arts, challenging herself every time to improve.
She has been working on her art ever since she was 3 years old, mastering the patience to maintain the ability and want to take on art. The “medium itself was never an issue” for her.
She first began her artistry journey as a way to fill time & bring it to fruition, while as the years have gone on, Evangeleepha has found herself unable to find the time for such a hobby, and only can for school projects anymore.
When asking Evangeleepha what advice she can give to those struggling to pave a pathway in art, she gave me a detailed response of what she’d say to those wanting answers. In her own words, “Art is not a mere outlet of expression. It is the bare fundamental for acknowledgement. Whereas one may utilize it as a channel for their emotions, that is not its sole purpose. It is the part where the user is able to advance. This enhancement of artistic prowess unlocks an array of abilities which can be employed in several other places beyond art. Just creating something itself is a feat, so imagine how much more you can do with that potential. There’s no reason to hate something which is subjective and always changing. Have your art be “ugly.” Make the lines too sharp, too curvy, too messy. Color outside the lines. Use supplies that aren’t meant to be mixed or used together. Let the raw, unfiltered imagination sprawl throughout your paper; it doesn’t even have to be made on paper. The uniqueness of every artist in how they create art is what makes art ART.”
Music Review:
Taylor Swift - The Life of a Showgirl
By Tory Rote
2/9/2026
After concluding her 2 year The Eras Tour, which won many awards, and announcing her engagement to football superstar, Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift released her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. This album was released this past October and consists of 12 tracks, which is very brief compared to her previous 31 track album, The Tortured Poets Department. The Life of a Showgirl explores the life of Taylor Swift behind the stage lights. An album that tells the story of scandals, new love, grief, dealing with the music industry’s unrealistic standards, and more. Many fans are comparing The Tortured Poets Department’s melancholic and depressing themes to the whimsical vibe of The Life of a Showgirl. Some favor the slow instrumentals of The Tortured Poets Department while some enjoy Taylor going back to the loud and energetic sounds that are found in her Grammy winning albums such as 1989 and Midnights. Many claim the lyricism of her new album seems lazy compared to her poetic, clever writing in The Tortured Poets Department. Overall, this album has received mixed opinions and reviews. As a life-long swiftie, I do not believe this album is Taylor’s best. Some songs on this album I can’t stop singing and other songs I simply have to skip. However, I believe certain songs, good and bad, deserve a breakdown. Here is my breakdown of the spotlight songs of The Life of a Showgirl!
The Fate of Ophelia
The Fate of Ophelia is the only single of this album and hit No. 1 on the Billboard 100 for eight consecutive weeks. The Fate of Ophelia alludes to the story of Hamlet. In Shakespeare’s story, Ophelia and Hamlet are in a romantic relationship. Ophelia falls into madness and ends up drowning herself due to grief and rejection. In this upbeat tune, Taylor Swift sings, “you dug me out of my grave and saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia.” This lyric perfectly encapsulates the meaning of the song. As Taylor Swift’s current relationship develops, she realizes that her lover has saved her from drowning in heartbreak. This song has a catchy post-chorus and lyrics that paint an enchanting fantasy inside the listeners’ minds. These two elements bring radiance to the album simply in the first track! Not to mention the stunning music video that I certainly recommend pop-lovers to watch.
Eldest Daughter
Taylor Swift’s 5th song on her tracklist is known to be her most personal song of the album, typically the tear-jerker. Eldest Daughter contains a beautiful, melancholic melody paired with lyrics that many fans disapprove of. In the first verse, Swift talks about how cruel social media has become, and how she feels embarrassed trying to fit in with the new trends, “...every joke's just trolling and memes, sad as it seems, apathy is hot.” While saying “trolling” and “memes” in a serious song sounds a little silly to most, I fully agree with Taylor in this line. It is so normalized to be so harsh and rude on the internet because people rarely face the consequences that they would if they were to say it in person. There is a sense of security with being able to argue with a stranger online when you can hide behind a profile picture that doesn’t show what you look like and a bio that says “spread kindness”. The most frowned upon lyric from this song is, “every eldest daughter was the first lamb to the slaughter so we all dressed up as wolves and we looked fire.” Taylor starts out with a heartbreaking metaphor that claims first-born daughters are the first of the family to experience the harsh reality and ruthless society. Being held at unrealistic standards and expected to always be perfect. She ends this lyric with those daughters dressing up as wolves and looking “fire”. This lyric starts off strong and then ends sounding like an eleven year old girl who is trying to be dark and edgy. Swift’s use of Gen-Z slang reminds many of a parent trying to be trendy and cool with their kids but end up embarrassing themselves. Some claim that this lyric is supposed to sound cringy to prove Taylor’s point that she can’t fit in with the trends on social media. However, her touch of sentimental lyrics and romantic melodies are embraced in the bridge, which has the vibe of Swift’s Speak Now songs. Overall, this song is not my favorite Track 5, and clearly not the Swifties’ favorite either, but the meaning behind this song is unique from anything Taylor Swift has written prior and that makes it special.
Ruin The Friendship
Swift contributes this song to her friend, Jeff Lang, who she had feelings for in high school. Unfortunately, Jeff died at a young age and Taylor never got to tell him how she felt. In this bittersweet post-chorus, Taylor sings, “my advice is always ruin the friendship, better that than regret it for all time…should've kissed you anyway.” Swift explains that she wishes she would’ve taken the risk and ruined her friendship with Lang by kissing him. This song is inspiring because it’s a reminder that time with someone is never promised, so take risks and live your life!
Actually Romantic
The most controversial song on this album that has brought fandoms against each other. Actually Romantic is a ballad that many fans thought was going to be a love song. What they didn’t expect was for it to be a diss of another famous artist, Charli XCX. Charli previously opened for Taylor’s Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018. Charli released her sixth album, Brat, in the summer of 2024. Fans speculate that Charli’s song, Sympathy is a knife, is about her feeling jealous of, or that she could never compare to a singer. Charli sings, “don't wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend's show. Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick.” During spring of 2023, Taylor had a short-term relationship with lead singer of pop band, The 1975, Matty Healy. In addition, Charli XCX is dating The 1975’s drummer, George Daniel. In this lyric, Charli complains about not wanting to see a pop star backstage at a 1975 show; discussing she hopes that pop star breaks up with their lover soon. Due to Taylor’s relationship with Matty Healy, it is assumed that Charli wrote this song about Taylor. Taylor claps back with lyrics in Actually Romantic, “high-fived my ex and then you said you’re glad he ghosted me. Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face… It's actually romantic, I really gotta hand it to you. No man has ever loved me like you do.” Charli XCX has denied her song is about Taylor Swift, but many Swifties disagree. On the other hand, Taylor has not confirmed who her song is about. However, there is a clear connection between the lyrics. Who knew that two singers that have performed together many times would end up taking stabs at each other through melodies?
Wi$h Li$t
Wi$h Li$t is a love song where Taylor explains she doesn’t want fancy things or an immense amount of fame; she just wants to live a normal life with her lover. She sings, “I just want you, have a couple kids, got the whole block looking like you. We tell the world to leave us [all] alone, and they do.” Swift’s wish list is to live a suburban life with the one she truly loves. She doesn’t need to live in wealth to feel satisfied, just a genuine love that lasts long. The bass and relaxed beat in this song bring good vibes, however the acoustic version feels more intimate and dreamy. Overall, Wi$h Li$t is a very heartfelt and romantic song that brings warmth to this album.
Wood
Wood is my personal favorite from this album. The jazzy chorus and clever lyrics add the perfect touch to the song. Many critics say that the intro sounds exactly like a 70’s song, ABC by the Jacksons. In this song, Taylor claims that her relationship is so strong that they don't need good fortune to have it work out, “seems to be that you and me, we make our own luck. A bad sign is all good, I ain't gotta knock on wood.” Swift mentions wishing on daisies, pennies, and falling stars as she hopes to find a long-term relationship. However, once she meets this special someone, she realizes their love is so strong that she doesn’t need to wish for anything. She doesn’t have to “knock on wood” to be sure that this guy is the one for her and that they will last. Just as Swift uses wood to represent luck, her sneaky, slightly inappropriate, play on the word brings a charming touch to the song.
CANCELLED!
The last notable song on this album is one that has many mixed opinions. CANCELLED! is about Taylor’s experience with judgement during the scandalous moments in her life. In the past decade, cancel culture has increased immensely. Most celebrities gain a bad reputation for serious reasons, and others unfortunately get cancelled for things they’ve never said or done. It’s almost inevitable for every celebrity to be involved in controversy. In this song Taylor claims that if criticism is inevitable, she might as well let it be empowering to her rather than discouraging. In the chorus, Taylor satirically says that she likes her friends cancelled, demonstrating her loyalty to those who have experienced intense judgement from society just as she has. Fans speculate that this line might be connected to Blake Lively, who has been condemned numerous times by the media… arguably for fair reasons. The pre-chorus has been mocked by many online, “did you girl-boss too close to the sun? Did they catch you having far too much fun?” “Girlboss” is a more recent term used to describe a woman being ambitious and independent. By using another gen-z slang word, Swift makes her writing seem unprofessional and lack creativity. In my opinion, this song could be written better and improved its production. It seems that Taylor was trying to create a song with the same lyrical elements and instrumentals as her Reputation songs, but it was poorly done. As much as I admire the ironic components of this song, it is unfortunately a skip for me.
Regardless of being slightly disappointed with this album, it’s exciting to see the bright, enthusiastic Taylor Swift come back again, after her gloomy albums such as Folklore and The Tortured Poets Department which encapsulate her relationship struggles and heartbreak with actor Joe Alwyn, whom she would date for 6 years. The Life of a Showgirl dives deeper into Swift’s life outside of the cameras and audience. It’s normalized to hear about musicians’ highlight reels, when they seem like they're thriving. However, for an artist to make an album about when they’re struggling in life, or when it’s not all glitz and glamour for them, is one of a kind. You can argue about her vocal talent, her character, or who might be better, but you can’t deny that Taylor Swift has made a profound impact on pop music and stands as one of the most influential songwriters of our time.

Welcome to Licking Height’s official Artist Spotlight! Astonishing Artists aspires to recognize those talented artists hiding a gifted talent within Licking Heights.
Jocelyn Teeters is an amazing artist here at Heights. She is a junior at the time of writing, and specializes in a hidden artform of makeup. While many don’t see it as so, it truly is a gift and huge form of self expression expressed throughout the world. Jocelyn has practiced makeup her entire life, and says how it didn’t come easy, but through long years of practice and dedication, first stemming from her mother introducing her to the art form.
Art is an outlet for many, though most get frustrated in believing that it is nothing special they create. A statement to those struggling to find their way in art, Jocelyn states that the trick is to “just keep trying, even if it starts with ugly sketches, having to trace things, or just coloring in coloring books. All of it will help you one day and skill comes with patience and many mistakes. Same with makeup, it is something that has taken even some of the best makeup artists in the world to perfect or to find what suits them.”
Untitled Poem
By Aubrey Collier Found Poem
She's 10 years old
She’s in school learning about the people, the poor,
The muslim, the Jew, the immigrant, the black, and the brown,
And all the hatred and tough times they’ve faced before.
She’s always been taught from a young age that there's beauty in every type of face.
But she only hears about the mistreatment and discrimination.
She's now 15
And she looks out her window to see people marching for their equal rights
The heavy clouds are crowding, a society storming,
Causing the tyrants to fear what their own people are capable of.
They chant “We can’t be broken!”
She begins to fear how if the world looks like this today,
What's going to happen to our future, to our youth?
Her father would always tell her, “Do not ignore the pain. Give it purpose.”
And so she turns to a piece of paper.
She hears the people chanting for their freedoms and their dreams.
The silence of a blank page has always bothered her,
But what will she do about it?
She longs for a different reality
She starts writing about a world where everyone chooses hope,
And no one is criticized for the color of their skin or the curl of their hair.
She took her father's words with grace,
And let her writings find their place
She's 20 now.
She stands before the crowd,
Every word she speaks makes the silence shake
Her verses live, they breathe, they soar
No longer just a whispered name
The time has changed as well as the face they see
But deep down, she's the same 10-year-old girl who sees beauty in everyone,
And she always will be.
Licking Heights Theater Club Presents:
The Mystery of Edwin Drood
By Kayla Fosu
12/1/25
The Mystery of Edwin Drood, an enigma in itself! With the author, Charles Dickens, passing away before he ever got to finish the renowned piece, he unintentionally leaves this unfinished murder mystery up to the imaginations of the reader—and now to the audience watching the play version produced by the Licking Heights Theater Club.
Within this production, cast members go through the entire story as Dickens had it in his narrative, but add an interactive twist where their viewers get to pick the ending. Audiences also have the honor of deciding who the lovers, murderer, and detective will be. Because of this, these actors have to memorize over 396 possible endings to perform, as they are unaware of what conclusion the audience may choose on each day until the votes are received. Not only that, but the orchestra must also learn multiple songs, some of which they will not be able to even play, depending on the ending assigned to them. With this, Ms. Whetstone, the head of the theater production at Licking Heights, mentions that audience members should look forward to being able to "determine the outcome of the show.”
Ms. Whetstone decided to assign this particular story as this year’s fall musical with the knowledge that “the returners coming back into the club were very much capable of carrying out this challenge,” and that it would allow the students to learn about “more musicals that are maybe not the standard”, which would challenge them a little more. Even though this show has required meticulous planning and actions, the members have been allowed some autonomy when it comes to movement around stage and interactions with other characters, which has been extremely entertaining for her and the stage managers to watch.
Emmy, the lead stage manager of the production, has “ done theater since freshman year,” having been in the “backstage crew for the first two years” before moving up to the stage manager position, in which they helped in running the backstage portion of the play. Now, Emmy is taking on the role as head stage manager. They explain how this is “really fun” for them so far, especially considering how it has been what they’ve wanted to do since freshman year. Emmy also expresses their interest in “watching the actors make new choices all the time” since the show is greatly built upon improv. The cast members’ ability to come up with interesting lines, jokes, etc on the spot has been their favorite part in overseeing this play.
So, gather on the nights of December 4th-6th to witness Licking Heights Theater Club enact The Mystery of Edwin Drood! With the stunning play, the great amounts of effort put into it by the members of this production, and the ability to develop the ending of the original tale that was left on a cliffhanger, it would be an absolute tragedy to miss this one-in-a-lifetime experience. If you do decide to join in on the fun, be prepared to interact with the actors and have a wonderful time!
Music Review - Eternal Sunshine By Arianna Grande
By Apsana Routh
9/26/2025
After a 4-year hiatus, Ariana Grande finally hits back with her 7th studio album titled "Eternal Sunshine" on March 8th, 2024. She also recently announced a deluxe version on March 28, 2025. Ariana Grande explains how her album is inspired by the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which is about an ex-couple going through surgery to erase their minds about their memories of love. This album captures the pain of going through a heartbreak, but also learning to let go and love. Tracks like “I Wish I Hated You” and “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love) “ carry more of an emotional appeal, which brings out Grande’s heartbreak and vulnerability. While other songs like “The Boy Is Mine” and “Bye” have a more upbeat, playful energy, which balances the album all together.
In the deluxe version, it follows more into closure and self-acceptance. Tracks like “Warm” and “Hampstead” completely shift the mood to moving on forward with life, and it reveals that healing is possible after loss.
Something that connects the album so well is the context behind it. Grande wrote her album right after her divorce, and the lyrics channel feelings of regret, loneliness, and self-discovery into her music, which created an emotional depth she has never really achieved in her past albums. As we know, albums like Dangerous Woman and Sweetner both have different approaches to the audience, as well as mood and theme. That’s why Eternal Sunshine has a very unique mood and theme, which makes the reader feel like they are also experiencing the heartbreak alongside Grande.
As previously mentioned, the Deluxe album brings a sense of closure and renewal. With 6 new tracks, including “Twilight Zone”, which indicates a reflection from a past relationship where she expresses her disbelief. In another song, “Dandelion” goes for a very jazz-type vibe, even including a trumpet in the beginning, making it very upbeat. The deluxe also includes a short film, which is a continuation of her previous music video. It portrays her journey from pain to self-discovery. The combination of all the songs and storytelling makes the deluxe version transform the album from a story of heartbreak to healing and emotional growth.
In the end, "Eternal Sunshine: Brighter Days Ahead" proves that you can turn your heartbreaks and misfortunes into a song to heal and grow. By blending heartbreak with healing, she takes on a journey from pain to hope, making it a full story by adding the deluxe as well. This album showcases her ability to connect emotionally and make fans feel comforted and inspired. For anyone in search of an album that will make you feel uplifted while you are going through a breakup, or music that makes you feel vulnerable, this album is a must.
Wicked 2: For Good
By Alexander Irving
12/2/2025
Wicked 2:For Good delivers a dazzling and emotionally charged conclusion to the iconic story of Elphaba and Glinda, bringing the world of Oz to life with even greater depth, color, and heart than the first installment. While Wicked Part 1 set the stage, this sequel truly lets the story soar.
The film picks up right where the previous chapter left off, diving straight into the tension, heartbreak, and complex friendships that define the original Broadway musical. The chemistry between the leads shines brighter than ever—Elphaba’s fierce determination and Glinda’s conflicted charm create a dynamic that carries the film through its heaviest and most uplifting moments.
Visually, the movie is stunning. Oz feels larger and more alive, with sweeping landscapes, vivid bursts of magic, and choreography that feels like a spell cast on the audience. The musical numbers are the standout moments—powerful, theatrical, and packed with emotion. Fans of the stage production will appreciate how respectfully the film treats the original songs while still giving them a fresh, cinematic twist.
The tone of this chapter is more dramatic and intense, and the story leans into its themes of identity, loyalty, and the cost of doing what’s right. Still, the movie never loses its sense of wonder. The finale lands with both heartbreak and hope, tying together the loose ends of Oz’s most misunderstood witch in a way that feels earned and satisfying.
Overall, Wicked Part 2 is a must-see for fans of the musical, fantasy lovers, and anyone who enjoys a character-driven story with spectacular visuals. It’s a bold, heartfelt finale that proves sometimes the most powerful stories aren’t about heroes or villains—but the truth that lies in between.
Art Talk featuring Mrs. Kill
By Seantaya Breckenridge-Coates
2/7/2025
This week’s art story highlights one of our dedicated and compassionate art teachers, Mrs. Kill. Originally on the path to becoming a photographer, she soon realized that her true calling was to become an art teacher. Mrs. Kill shared, “The first time I taught a class, I knew that I was meant to be an art teacher and share my love of art with students.”
If you’re interested in pursuing a career in the arts, Mrs. Kill has some invaluable advice. “For students who want to become art teachers,” she explains, “they need to be prepared for the hard work in college. Not only do you have to complete all the requirements for teaching, but you also have to take art classes to better your artistic skills. It’s almost like doing two degrees at once.” Becoming an art teacher is not just about learning how to teach; it’s also about continuing to develop your own artistic abilities. Mrs. Kill emphasizes that this journey is challenging but rewarding. She goes on to say, “Being a teacher is tough, and it’s not for everyone. You really need to think about the kind of person you are and whether you’re ready for one of the hardest jobs in the world.” This insight reminds us that teaching is a profession that requires passion, patience, and a deep commitment to the growth of others.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Kill has organized numerous art shows to showcase her students’ work. One of her most memorable experiences involved transforming hallways into immersive habitats. She describes, “My favorite art show involved turning the hallways into different ecosystems, like oceans and rainforests. We mounted projects on the walls, displayed them on the floor, and even hung them from the ceilings. It was incredible to see the space come to life.” That must have been a truly amazing experience!
Showcasing student artwork is something Mrs. Kill is particularly passionate about. She explains the significance of these exhibitions; “Displaying student artwork is important because it gives students a sense of pride. They know that their work is not only being admired but that others are also recognizing the creativity they’ve put into their projects.” She also emphasizes the importance of representing all skill levels; “When artwork is displayed, it reflects the diversity of students' abilities. Every student, no matter their skill level, works hard and deserves to be recognized.”
Through her hard work, commitment, and passion, Mrs. Kill has made a lasting impact on the students who have had the privilege of learning under her guidance. Whether it’s through showcasing their artwork, offering advice, or simply encouraging their creativity, Mrs. Kill has helped nurture the next generation of artists and thinkers. She has proven time and again that teaching art is not just about instructing students on techniques, but also about helping them find their voice and realize their potential.
Mrs. Kill’s influence extends beyond the walls of her classroom, as her dedication to her students continues to inspire everyone she encounters. Her legacy as a teacher is one of encouragement, passion, and the belief that art has the power to shape the way we see the world. Through her example, students are encouraged to not only develop their artistic skills but also to appreciate the value of creativity, hard work, and perseverance.
Licking Heights Art Spotlight
By Denise

Licking Heights is surrounded by a lot of creativity. Whether it’s through music, dance, art, or writing, it’s all over the school. Students put together beautiful, alluring pieces that art teachers display for the students and faculty to gaze upon as they walk by. In the showcase, you see pieces of ceramic heads, wood art, paper sculptures, and eye paintings displayed in the case. It shows how talented the LH students are and their ability to craft beautiful pieces.
Many of your classmates enjoy the art wing of our school. Classmates speak about their experiences in the art world, their creative ideas, and more. A Licking Heights student said, “Being in the art class felt a little isolating because I felt like I didn’t know how to do the work. I’m not as creative as some of the students in my art class, but my work got displayed out on the shelf and I was really happy to see it out there because I didn’t think I did a good enough job”. Another student says, “Being in the art room is so fun because I get to be creative and add my style to things. The art room is also where I can just chill and hang out with my friends, also creating new bonds with different students in the class”.
With her vibrant and kind personality, Mrs. Jones knew the art field was for her. Mrs. Jones realized she liked teaching kids during the summers of her high school years being a camp counselor. On displaying art, Mrs. Jones says, “The students who learn and work hard deserve to feel proud of their accomplishments and showcasing their work in the halls is a great way to boost their pride.” Mrs.Jones also adds, “Each time we finish a project there are different students that learn to improve their projects more and more. The more the students learn to improve the more likely they are to have their work displayed. I do try to not display the same students each time to create a sense of fairness.”
Mrs.Jones told me that one piece that catches her attention is Jillian Armentrout's Eye Painting. The skin tone was the chef's kiss and the blending was executed perfectly. The realism in Jillian’s eye art conveys a sense of intensity and beauty in the blending, lighting, and texture in her piece. It's remarkable, the eye looks alive and full of emotions. Amazing job Jillian! We can't wait to see what you do next. You can check out the painting in display case located in the Art Hall.

A tattoo is a mark, figure, design, or word intentionally fixed or placed on the skin. The reason why many people get tattoos is because they can symbolize many different things. It can symbolize culture, hardships, relationships, and so much more. A tattoo is permanent, they make statements that last a lifetime. So here are some stunning tattoos, and what they symbolize.
Mrs. Creamer, a teacher, has multiple different colorful flowers that are all stunning. They all represent somebody in her family, people like her sons and her mom.
Madelyn Bias, a student, has a tattoo of 6 elephants on her arm. It symbolizes her family, her siblings.
Delilah Jorge, a student, recently got her first tattoo and enjoyed everything about the process. She shockingly says, "it was a tickle but with pressure." Her tattoo is in honor of my grandpa with the wording in is his handwriting saying “love you all the way to the moon”. "He always said that to me since I was little and my grandma was like my best friend. The flowers are more of something I love, but I wanted to include him in my tattoo because he means a lot to me."
Music Review - Chromakopia by Tyler the Creator

Chromkopia was released on the 28th of October, has brought back life to many Tyler,
The Creator fans around me. This album opens with one of the strongest opening songs I've heard in a
long time and as we progress through the album it gives more meaning to the name “Chroma”. The songs
tell stories and express the artist's fears, struggles, love, fatherhood and much more. Structurally
it's also very brilliant because he does not mess around with his vocal layering abilities and the
secret features he has throughout the album. Some highlights for me is "St. Chroma", "Sticky's
instrumental", "Take Your Mask Off" chorus, The second part of "Like Him", and the first verse of
"Balloon". Overall this album is definitely such a big journey and it didn’t just bring me life but
took me through somebody else’s too. This album isn’t something I’d listen to regularly but I have
the songs I like added to my playlist and it's pretty a good listen.
