Typically girls run before boys. For the field events, they usually alternate girls and boys. For example, if girls shot put is first, then boys discus will be first or if girls long jump is first, boys high jump will be first. Sometimes, jumping events are run simultaneously if the host has multiple pits or they alternate athletes. Be sure to check with the meet officials or the head coach to see who is competing first. Also, it is important to remember that field events will typically begin anywhere from 15-45 minutes before the official start time of the meet so that athletes can conclude their field events before running events begin.
