I can learn how to use a 3D desiging software like Tinkercad or Fusion 360
I can create a basic model using computer-aided design software with multiple parts
I can take an imagined idea from conception to fruition
I can manipulate simple shapes using a 3D designing software or 3D pen to create an object
I can combine objects in a design to create a structure following a tutorial
work in a 3D environment -rotate views -rotate work plane
convert images to svg or obj files and then import them into a computer-aided designing software like Tinkercad
create a complex object with multi steps and or parts while watching a tutorial
Your Challenge is to:
manipulate shapes in the workspace to create a prototype of a real world object
design and create a vehicle or an aircraft watching a tutorial
design a workable 3D Stamp
convert images to svg or obj files and then import them into a computer-aided designing software like Tinkercad to create an original design
create a complex object with multiple steps and or parts like a fidget while watching a tutorial
create a unique invention that will help people
Important Vocabulary
Tinkercad -a free, online 3D modeling program that allows users to design 3D objects, build electronic circuits, and code
2D- two-dimensional
3D-three-dimensional
svg file-Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) files are used to create two-dimensional graphics, illustrations, charts, logos, and icons. They are a popular choice for web design because they can be scaled up or down without losing quality.
cad file-A CAD file is a digital file that contains 2D or 3D models of a physical object, created using computer-aided design (CAD) software
Computer-aided design- (CAD) files contain both 2D or 3D designs. They're used to create models or architecture plans. 2D CAD files are referred to as drawings, while 3D files are often called parts or assemblies.
Vector - (in physics) a vector is a quantity with magnitude (a number value) and direction
Vectors - are represented by arrows. Direction and length of the arrows matter
Vertex - a place where two or more curves, lines or edges meet
Three-dimensional Shape - a solid figure or object that has a length, width, and height
Surface Area - the sum of all the faces found on a three-dimensional figure; represented in units squared
Nets - a two-dimensional drawing or pattern of a three-dimensional figure
Rectangular Prism - a three-dimensional object that has eight vertices, twelve edges, and six faces (all made up of rectangles)
Triangular Prism - a three-dimensional object that has six vertices, nine edges and five faces (made up of two triangles and three rectangle
Before you start designing objects in Tinkercad, you should know the following:
*Interface-A way for different software components to work together, such as logging systems.
*Get familiar with the Tinkercad interface.
*Shapes----Tinkercad uses shapes as building blocks. You can add pre-existing shapes or import your own.
*Creating objects----To create an object, select a shape from the Basic Shape window and place it on the work plane.
*Adjusting objects------You can rotate the workplane to adjust shapes or change views. You can also input exact dimensions with the ruler.
*Combining elements-------You can create custom shapes to build detailed models.
*Deleting objects-----You can delete selected objects by clicking the trashcan button under the file name on the top left of the screen.
*Undoing or redoing actions------You can undo or redo actions by clicking the two arrows button under the file name on the top left of the screen
What math will I need to know?
In 3D CAD design, the primary math involved is linear algebra, including concepts like vector operations, coordinate systems, transformations (translation, rotation, scaling), matrices, and basic trigonometry, which are used to manipulate and define 3D objects within the digital space.
Career and Real World Connection
Video game designer
Video game designers create the core features of video games to make them more engaging and exciting. Since technological advancements have allowed for the creation of people, places and subjects in video games that look more realistic than ever before, video game designers use 3D design and modeling to make the characters and settings look more appealing and realistic to the audience.
3D printing technician
A 3D printing technician prepares files for 3D printing and ensures that the equipment functions properly to deliver a successful prototype or product. Since 3D printing has become a significant aspect of the 3D modeling and design industry, many people who choose to enter this field will have to know how to use 3D printing technology and equipment.
3D animator
A 3D animator creates animations that are three-dimensional and may be used in videos, motion pictures, television programs and other applications. Some 3D animators focus on certain types of animation, such as the creation of objects, humans or backgrounds, while others take a more generalized approach and create animations of all kinds.
4 Software programs to use for 3D Modeling and Printing:
Project Shapeshifter"Project Shapeshifter is a free technology preview by Autodesk. It provides an easy way to create complex 3D Printable models in your web browser. With a simple tweak of sliders, you can control the object's shape and select a 3D pattern that wraps around it."
