My rockstar students!
We’re about to embark on an exciting new adventure at a brand-new school with a block schedule! It’s natural to feel a little nervous on the first day, but please know that Mrs. Culiver and I will be right here to support your child every step of the way.
Over the first few weeks, we’ll help you all get comfortable with their schedules and the new routine. No one will be marked tardy as we understand that adjusting to a new environment takes time. To make things even easier, I’ll have a clipboard in my classroom with exploratory class assignments to help you find your way during those first few weeks.
If you have any questions or need anything to make the first day smoother, please don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m here to help!
On the first day, I’ll also be sending home a short form so I can learn more about you from an adult at home. In class, we’ll be doing some fun activities to help us get to know one another better. I’m so excited to get started, and I know you are going to have an amazing first day!
For my block classes, students will use a single binder with loose-leaf paper to stay organized. I will provide each student with a binder folder to place in the middle of their binder. The first half of the binder will be dedicated to ELA, while the second half will be for Social Studies. When we cover specific topics in ELA—such as parts of speech—students will receive reference sheets to use during assignments and review.
In addition to the binder, students will maintain a marble notebook that serves as their reading and writing response journal. This journal will be used for reflections, critical thinking exercises, and brainstorming across both ELA and Social Studies topics. I am excited to invite families to participate voluntarily at the start of the year through a writing journal project focused on “heart maps.” More details will be shared soon.
To support creativity and hands-on learning, I provide craft materials such as glue, markers, crayons, and scissors in our classroom craft corner. Students are also welcome to bring their own pencil boxes stocked with these supplies for use in other classes. I also have a "headphone" station that students are welcomed to borrow a set of headphones in my class. They will use their class number to access the shared headphones.
Students should have a sturdy backpack folder to bring home important papers from CIS, graded assignments, and other information that will help support you at home.
Desks in my classroom are shared between both block classes: the left side is assigned to the morning class, and the right side to the afternoon class. Students should keep their materials in their desks but are reminded not to leave any valuable items there.
If you would like to support our classroom further, there is an Amazon wishlist accessible via QR code.
Thank you again for your support!
