Protect: Litter Prevention

Litter Prevention

What students will learn

Between their litter pick-up, and a 9-day lesson on ¨Garbology¨, students will learn how better to manage resources in regard to items that are thrown away. This project is being worked on by STEM students (elective class) so there are no specific standards addressed.

what students will do

The entire outside area of the campus will be divided into sections. 6th grade STEM students will assigned to these sections to collect litter every Friday. Upon collecting the litter, students will make quantitative observations and report this data to Ms. Frohnhoefer, so her students can use this data toward their Sustainable Development Goal project (part of our magnet theme).

How students will teach others

After Mr. Cooley's students gather data they will report it to Ms. Frohnhoefer's class and teach them about what they collected (including what spots on campus had the most litter. Ms. Frohnhoefer's class will use this data to create visuals included in their SDG project to teach the school about how litter on campus can impact our waterways.
