Academic Support

Academic success looks different for every student. This page provides information and resources to help students understand their academic progress, improve their study habits, recover credits, plan their courses, and stay on track for promotion and graduation. Students and families are encouraged to contact me whenever they have questions or need help developing an academic plan. 

Academic Planning and Progress

I work with students, families, teachers, administrators, and home school counselors to review grades, credits, course requirements, and academic goals. Together, we can identify concerns, develop a plan, and connect students with the appropriate support and resources. 

Monitor Your Academic Portal 

Students and families are encouraged to review grades, attendance, assignments, and teacher feedback regularly through Parent Portal. Monitoring progress consistently can help identify concerns early and provide time to seek support before the end of a grading period. For assistance logging in the portal, contact Mrs. DeYoung in the front office at 803.575.5300.

Promotion, Credits, and Graduation Planning

Academic requirements vary by grade level and diploma pathway. I help students and families understand promotion requirements, earned credits, graduation requirements, course selections, and the steps needed to remain on track. Students and parents are encouraged to review their progress regularly and ask questions whenever requirements are unclear.

Credit Recovery and Virtual Learning 

Students who need to recover credit or require additional course options may be eligible for an approved credit recovery or virtual learning program. Placement depends on the student’s academic record, graduation plan, course availability, and program requirements. Students and families should speak with the school counselor before enrolling in or making changes to any course.

Strategies for Academic Success 

Small, consistent habits can make a meaningful difference in academic progress. Students are encouraged to use the following strategies: 

• Attend school and arrive to class on time

• Check grades and missing assignments regularly

• Use a planner, calendar, or phone reminder to track deadlines

• Break large assignments into smaller, manageable steps

• Complete and submit assignments on time

• Ask teachers for clarification or assistance

• Use available tutoring and academic-support opportunities

• Create a quiet, organized place to complete schoolwork

• Set realistic short-term academic goals

• Celebrate progress and adjust the plan when needed
