- Introduction to Personal Statements
- Group analysis of essays: Check out these links with a partner. Johns Hopkins Sample Essays & other examples
Once in groups, read chosen statement with your partner and consider the following:
- Discuss and record the strengths and weaknesses of the essays. (Ex. weaknesses would be cliches)
- Think about the author's descriptions, and structural/organizational choices. How does this make the essay stand out?
- Look Up/Call Colleges for any information about requirements
- Begin drafting personal statements (If struggling to think of a topic, check out personal statement presentation from last class or this super helpful list from Harvard...yes, Harvard.
