Artist as Enthusiastic Adventurer
Week of June 1 Be an illustrator using the magic of cut paper collage! You can create a character or be inspired by one of your favorites. Click through to learn from the MiniMatisse blog and artist Shannon Rubie!
Week of May 25 SIDEWALK CHALK!! This recipe only needs 3 ingredients and you are on your way to some full-body art experience on the driveway, sidewalk, or other chalk-approved surface! I tested it out at home and it works really well--great way to enjoy the nice weather and create something beautiful (abstract, linear, organic, you name it!!)
Week of May 11 One of m y absolute FAVORITE activities to do with Art Explorations in the spring is bubble painting! We have done a few variations of this activity, but you can follow along with the instructions linked to this website to learn more. If you have bubbles and some kind of pigment--markers, watercolors, tempera paint--around the house, you can make a bubble painting! Especially great to do on a deck or front porch if the weather is nice :)
Week of May 4 Paper weaving is a great way to work on motor skills, use up spare paper you have around the house, AND create a beautiful work of art! If you only have notebook or printer paper, consider using crayons, markers, or paint to snazz it up before you do this activity. Enjoy the calming rhythm of paper weaving this week!
Week of April 27 This week, wait for a sunny day and get outside (or near a really excellent window!) to create some shadow drawings. You can do this with photography, on paper, with chalk on your driveway, or any other creative way you can imagine! Play around with fun-shaped objects in your house and see what kinds of shadows they make! Slides are included to inspire you a bit.
Week of April 20 If you have some baking soda and cornstarch at home, you can make AIR DRY CLAY! Give this recipe a whirl and create different shapes (roll it out like cookie dough!) and forms (3-dimensional objects that take up space!). If you decide to let it air-dry, you can even paint it afterwards too :)
Week of April 13 We've played with continuous line...now let's try using lines to make SYMMETRY! If you click the embedded site to the right, it will take you to an awesome lesson on writing names and creating lines of symmetry to make your name look like an interesting piece of art! There is also a printable worksheet linked at the site, to practice more examples of symmetry. Give it a try and use whatever colors or materials you have handy to fill it in. Enjoy!
Week of April 6 It's finally spring...I think! Try out Continuous Line Bunnies :) You can follow along with the steps in the video, or watch it and then invent your OWN technique! The movements are really relaxing and help you find a good rhythm. Use whatever materials you have at home. Have fun with it! Make it your own! I miss you all SO MUCH. Feel free to share your creations with me via email.
