FoDA is a project-based introductory course that mirrors the concepts taught in Foundations of Fine Art (composition, scale, form, value, color theory, negative/positive space, critique, etc.) but in a digital format. Students will understand the basic fundamentals of the digital camera, Photoshop, Illustrator, video editing software and other applications. Any students who wish to pursue digital art and design classes, such as Digital Imaging, Animation and Graphic Design, are encouraged to first take this course.
Assignment 1: Intro to Adobe Photoshop - Working with Layers
Collage a minimum of 5 different images into an interesting, unified composition.
Assignment 2: Digital Photo - Rule of Thirds
Submit 5 images that depict compositions which effectively utilize the Rule of Thirds.
Assignment 3: Correcting Images with Photoshop
Use each of Photoshop’s adjustment layers to improve five images from your personal image bank.
Assignment 4: Expressive Word
Students will be introduced to Adobe Illustrator and later use it to create a word that is visually expressive of the word’s meaning or definition.
Assignment 5: Creating a GIF File - Intro to Animation in Adobe Photoshop
Students will use Adobe Photoshop to create an animated sequence that involves at least two separate sequences and later turn their finished piece into a GIF file.
Assignment 6: iMovie Video
Create a thoughtful storyboard and a script, and later utilize these to produce a one to two minute long video in iMovie that contains at least five different camera angles.
