On 2/26/20 - 2/27/20, the LHS library was the home of the first Black History Month pop-up museum.
Over the course of two days, hundreds of students visited the museum to interact with over 13 exhibits and 7 speakers.
Speakers included Johnny Cole, LPS's Director of Equity & Student Support
Dr. Kabria Baumgartner spoke with students about African American Activism in the 19th century Northeast.
When visiting the Black Panther & Afrofutrism exhibit, students used speculative imagery to empower their identities.
During I block, Mr. Cassedy and the LHS Wind Ensemble performed "A Movement for Rosa"
Students were able to speak with members of the ABCL.
The Lexington Historical Society created a station that showcased Black history in Lexington.
When studying pieces of Black poetry, students were able to create conversation poems that examined common themes across these writings.
This conversation poem was created by an LHS student.
Students worked through a math problem created by a Black Mathematician who was highlighted in a station created by members of the Math Dept
Students were able to talk through materials with students and teachers from across LHS (and had fun)!
Students visited a multi-part exhibit detailing the origins and content of the 1619 Project, an exhibit created by Melanie Thompson.
