We are saddened to announce our current Community serving Community program will come to an end with the last delivery being May 13th. This delivery will provide meals until May 15th. Together with many volunteers, we have been able to serve 460 meals a day!
WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE OUR NEXT PHASE TO HELP THE COMMUNITY.
As of May 18th, the Green Ladle Community Serving Community program will aim to help not only those most in need, but also local restaurants who are struggling.
“It’s our turn to help the restaurants who have been an intricate part of making both our Community Serving Community and Culinary Arts Programs a success. They have been there for us with donations during these trying times and these are the people who hire our students. I'm always calling them for something like the Chili Chowder challenge and the Dempsey challenge and they are always there. Now it's our turn to lend them a hand when they need it.” Chef Dan Caron says.
The new program will be run lottery style with approximately 90-120 names(or households) being drawn. Recipients will be notified on May 14th or 15th if their name is chosen.
We are aiming to serve those who have no other options for food so we will verify need at time of notification. Deliveries will be set up on our current schedule of Mondays and Wednesdays and will continue to be staffed by LRTC teacher volunteers.
The most exciting part of this program is that we will be purchasing 4 out of the 5 meals per week from local restaurants who have generously donated supplies, chef volunteers and money to keep our current program running as long as it has. This will help them get back on their feet after having to either shut down or greatly reduce their production since March.
We have loved being able to support our community during this time of crisis, doing our part to help keep you safe and healthy. We hope you have enjoyed the meals and know someone cares about you. We look forward to helping those most in need and at the same time being there for businesses who have always been there for us.
“We have seen first hand the real impact of this program for our community...our ability to continue is a tribute to the commitment of our teachers and the community we are proud to serve. We are very excited to be able to continue this important work!” Rob Callahan, Director of LRTC.
